After visiting Washington (4-9) the Giants receive Carolina (5-8),and go to Minnesota (11-2),who might not have much to play for by then,to close their regular season. “We’re in the mindset that if we win these three games,we think we’ll make the playoffs.”said Eli Manning. First, they must beat the Redskins on Mondy night.Easier said than done,as Washington has improved dramatically in the last five weeks. They went 2-3 in that span, but almost pulled upsets against Dallas,Philadelphia and New Orleans who needed a few litle miracles to stay unbeaten.Against the Saints, the Redskins missed a short field goal to win the game in regulation, and lost the ball on a fumble in OT to lose 33-30 two weeks ago. The Redskins responded by blowing out the Raiders 34-13 in Oackland last Sunday. QB Jason Campbell has thrown for 1,749 yds,11 TDs and 6 INTs in his last seven games, and earned a 92.3 passer rating. The once dominating Giants’defense that led them to their Super Bowl in 2007,and to a 5-0 start this season, has slowed down sensibly since and ranks 22nd in the league with 26 sacks. The Giants also allowed touchdowns on a punt and a fumble returns in the loss to the Eagles. Manning threw for a career-high 391 yds of the offense’s season-high 512 total yds.The Redskins defense, who played last Sunday without DT Albert Haynesworth and CB DeAngelo Hall, will have its hands full if the Giants come up with a similar performance.Haynesworth and Hall status is still uncertain for Monday night. The Redskins are out of the postseason, but nothing would please them more than spoil it for division rivals Giants. “I’d love to be the Grinch on their Christmas”rookie LB Brian Orakpo said Monday “That’s what we’re aiming for.Obviously we’re not going to make the playoffs, but we would ruin some other’s people season.” Beside pride and stats, there is always something to play for in the NFL,I expect the Giants to win in Washington to keep intact their chances to make the playoffs but they have to be prepared for a hard battle. The New York Giants (7-6) failed to tie for the lead in the NFC East when they lost 38-45 to Philadelphia last Sunday. They are now 2 games behind the Eagles (9-4),but they still have a chance to get in the playoffs as they own the tiebreaker over Dallas (8-5) who plays at the unbeaten New Orleans Saturday night.
