Saints no longer perfect with 24-17 loss to Dallas
Saints no longer perfect with 24-17 loss to Dallas The New Orleans Saints’ march toward an unbeaten season came to a halt after they failed to rally for another improbable win against the Dallas Cowboys in the Superdome.

The Saints (13-1) have now to focus on making their first Super Bowl appearence, which is what the fans waited for for so many years.

New Orleans’ defeat to the Cowboys left the Indianapolis Colts (14-0) as the NFL’s only unbeaten team this season.

Dallas (9-5) snapped out of what had started as another December meltdown. After losing at Giants Stadium and against San Diego the first two weeks of the month, they won the game that everybody thought they would lose,in the house of the previously undefeated Saints.

Tony Romo went 22 of 34 for 312 yards and a TD with no INTs,including a 49-yds TD hook up with Miles Austin who had 7 catches for 139 yds with the score.Marion Barber rushed for 62 yds and 2 TDs and Felix Jones ran for another 58 yds.

The Cowboys offense did a good job, never turning the ball away, but it was the Dallas defense that won the game, forcing 3 turnovers.DeMarcus Ware came back from the scarry sprained-neck injury he suffered against San Diego, with 2 sacks of the total 4 on Drew Brees, and stripped the ball twice from the Saints’ QB,forcing 2 fumbles recovered by Dallas.

The Cowboys defense held the Saints offense to 336 yds,90 less than their season average, and to 19 points below their scoring average per game.

The Saints, however, down 24-3 to begin the fourth quarter, almost pulled another of those improbable dramatic comebacks. They made it 24-10 on an 80-yds drive capped by Mike Bell 1-yd rushing TD,and a one score game at 24-17 when Brees found Lance Moore for a 7-yd TD pass with 8 minutes left in the game.

That left it up to the Saints defense to hold once more.Romo mounted a long drive converting a third-and-7 at his own 23 in a deafening noise, and setting a game-sealing field goal a few plays later, from about the same distance Shaun Suisham missed two weeks ago in Washington with time expiring, allowing the Saints to win in overtime.

The crowd erupted when Nick Folk’s 24-yd kick bounced off the upright, sensing the Saints weren’t destined to lose. And it sure looked that way when Brees converted a fourth down on a pass to Marques Colston who made a spectacular one-handed catch.

The Saints marched to midfield in the last minute, but DeMarcus Ware silenced the crowd when he stripped Brees of the ball for the second time in the game and Dallas’ lineman Jay Ratliff recovered it.

“That was a fun one “said Romo “These are the ones you love to play.”

Brees was pressured all night, sacked four times, intercepted once, and lost the ball on 2 fumbles. “This is going to sting for a while but we’ve got to be be able to put this behind us”said Brees “It’s all about the next game.”

The Saints are still in control to finish No1 in the NFC,they receive the weak Tampa Bay on Sunday and end the regular season at Carolina.

The Cowboys go to Washington before receiving division-leader rival Philadelphia for their last game. This unexpected win at New Orleans keeps their chances to win the NFC East alive, and gives them an even better opportunity for a wild card if they fail to finish on top of the division.
