We missed all the fun on TV today because the best scores came in the morning at the hands of 1st round leader Darron Stiles who backed up his opening 64 by a 65 which puts him at the top of the leaderboard, 13 under with a 3 shots lead.,of Ryan Palmer, Scott Verplank and Jimmy Walker with 64s. But Steve Stricker was the hotest player as he equalled the course record 61 (10 under par) with a stunning 29 on the back nine (5 birdies and an eagle). He also had 4 birdies on the front with the only bogey of the day at the 3rd hole.Stricker is a very good driver of the ball and when he gets the putter going, watch out !! He is in 2nd place at 10 under,3 shots behind Stiles. Tim Petrovic is in 3rd place at -9 after a good 67 today following 66 on the 1st round. Jerry Kelly, one of the last to come in,shot 7 under 64 to tie Petrovic at -9 in 3rd place.Nine players at 8 under ,seven at -7 ,things could change quickly tomorrow at the top. On Sunday the players will have to go through 36 holes so fitness, as much as talent, will be a big factor to define the winner of the John Deere Classic. Darron Stiles will try to win for the first time on the PGA TOUR. It is a tall order as his best finish is a tie for 9th place. Defending champion Kenny Perry is in contention at -6 after 2 rounds of 68. The cut is at -4 so everybody will have a chance in that tournament where low scores can be shot on a very accessible golf course. Two good rounds may do the trick.
