Reno Tahoe Open Golf Betting Preview
Reno Tahoe Open Golf Betting PreviewThe Reno Tahoe Open will tee it up this week and golf bettors will be excited to know that odds for the event can be found on the online sportsbook, Bet Phoenix.

There are several interesting facts about this event. Six of the first 12 RTOs have produced first-time winners — Notah Begay III (1999), Chris Riley (2002), Vaughn Taylor (2004), Will MacKenzie (2006), Parker McLachlin (2008) and Matt Bettencourt (2010) — making the RTO a launching pad for PGA Tour careers. It’s one of the few tournaments on the tour schedule where “field” is probably the best bet at the sportsbooks.

The RTO has had one repeat winner in its history, Vaughn Taylor (left) in 2005. If Matt Bettencourt were to pull off that feat this year it would the sixth such accomplishment since Taylor’s back-to-back (Steve Stricker, John Deere Classic, 2010; Zach Johnson, Valero Texas Open, 2009; Boo Weekley, Verizon Heritage, 2008; Tiger Woods, 2007, PGA Championship; Tiger Woods, WGC-American Express Championship, 2006).

Four players — Bill Glasson (2005), Joe Ogilvie (2006), Parker McLachlin (2008) and John Rollins (2009) — share the course record of 10-under 62. Could this be the year someone claims the record all to himself? To own the tournament record, a player is going to have to beat Vaughn Taylor’s 21-under 267 in 2005. One record that won’t ever be topped? Yusaku Miyazoto’s two holes-in-one in the second round in 2006.

One of the tour’s most popular players has seen his ups and downs throughout his career, and he might be on track for a resurgence. Lap-band surgery helped him lose more than 100 pounds, and he has said he’s been sober for more than two years. He tied for ninth at the Canadian Open on July 24, his first top-10 finish since October 2005.

With great players in a great event there is no reason that any true golf betting fan should miss out on this event.
