| Golf Betting Preview: Omega Mission Hills World Cup |
For the best odds on this great golfing event and all of the other golfing events around the globe stop by online sportsbook Bet Phoenix and check out the action. The Omega Mission Hills World Cup of Golf is played this week at the Mission Hills Golf Club on Hainan Island off the southern coast of China where 28 two man teams tee it up in pursuit of huge prize money. The winning team shares US$2.4 million and even the 5th place team shares US$350,000. Just for teeing it up the last placed team earns US$50,000 so for many of the players in this field it is a chance to add significantly to their 2011 earnings. The event is played over 72 holes and consists of Foursomes on days one and three and Four-ball on days two and four. Favorites for the title this year probably lies with the pairing of the inform Rory McIlory and Graeme McDowell who are representing the whole of Ireland in this event but the South African team of Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen, who have played well individually in recent weeks, are a genuine threat. Schwartzel finished as the equal highest points scorer in the International Team in last week’s Presidents Cup and Oosthuizen has rebounded from an indifferent year to have played well in his last few starts. Robert Karlsson and Alexander Noren, who have both had good seasons, should do well for Sweden, Gary Woodland and Matt Kuchar represent the USA and Ian Poulter and Justin Rose make a likely combination. The Molinari brothers, Edoardo and Francesco, are the defending champions although they are perhaps not at the peak of form they were in when winning over Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson at Mission Hills in Shenzen in 2009. Australia have won the event on four previous occasions the first coming in 1954 when Peter Thomson and Kel Nagle won in Canada when the event was known as the Canada Cup. They won again in 1959 at Royal Melbourne, in 1970 Bruce Devlin and David Graham won in Argentina before the most recent Australian victory came in Spain in 1980 when Wayne Grady and Peter Fowler claimed the title. This year Brendan Jones and Richard Green are again representing Australia, Jones coming off the back of two solid weeks in Japan and Green having last played at the Australian Open when 44th and generally in recent starts his form has been below his best. Jones and Green are Australia’s 8th and 9th ranked Australian players so while they are not the strongest team Australia could field they proved in 2008 when they last played together they could do well. That year they finished 3rd. New Zealand is represented by Mike Hendry and Gareth Paddison. The only thing better than watching this event is betting on it and the best wagering odds can be found at Bet Phoenix.
