| RBC Canadian Open Oakville Ontario July23-26 Glen Abbey course |
A lot of rain on Glen Abbey course forced delays and the whole field has to play 2 rounds today. At the end of round 3 Retief Goosen,Anthony Kim and Jason Dufner are leading at 15 under par,1 shot ahead of Nathan Green,Bob Estes and Michael Letzig. Goosen took the lead alone with birdies at the 3rd ,5th and 6th at -18 but a bogey at 9 while birdies from Green at the 1st ,4th and 8th brings a tie at 17 under. Kim and Dufner are 1 over par in their last round and stand 3 shots behind at -14.Estes,level par,and Lee Jantzen working on a 6 under par round are also at -14. There is a lot of birdies to be made on the last 9 holes, however it looks like a two men race for the title at the RBC Canadian Open. Retief Goosen birdies the par 5 13th to take a 1 shot lead over Green who is playing in the group following Goosen. The game is on !! Anthony drops to -13,tied for 6th place, with a bogey at 14.It’s almost over for him. I say almost because there 3 par 5 in the last 6 holes an da lot of things can happen in that finishing stretch. Nathan Green has an 8’5” putt on 13 to tie the lead,he misses but Goosen drops a shot at 14 and they are tied again at -17. Costly bogey for Jantzen at the par 5 18th , god they hate that ,to end his round with a 67 . Anthony Kim birdies 15,he is back to -14 in 3rd place. Goosen bogey at 14 brings back in play Kim who still has 3 holes to play, and Dufner who still has the par 5 13th to get closer. Goosen registers his second bogey in a row at 15 and is now 1 shot behind Nathan Green who leads at 17 under. Kim birdies 16 and is right back in,2 shots from the lead.Did I get ahead of myself when I said he was out after he bogeyed 14 ? Jerry Kelly makes birdie at 13 ,he is in 4th place alone at -14. Bad finish for Kim who puts his second shot in the water at 18.He takes a bogey 6 for 73 in the last round with an aggregate of – 14. Green birdies 16 to take a 2 shots lead,it looks good for the australian. Kelly has a putt for eagle at 16 and Goosen at 18,it is far from being over ! Goosen makes his 15’7” putt and ties Green at 18 under, the lead in the club house. Kelly fails and moves to -15 with a birdie, 3 shots behind. Green has 2 holes left including the par 5 18th to win this tournament,he needs a birdie to avoid a playoff with Goosen. He pars 17,one to go! He has 2 birdies and an eagle at 18 in his first 3 rounds. A drive of 290 yards in the fairway leaves him 219 to the green which sails into the crowd in the rough 40 yards from the pin.He has to chip back, the ball ends on the hazard line near the water.A chip and a putt from there lead to the sudden death playoff with Goosen. They will play 18,then 17 and 18 if necessary and keep rotating until one wins a hole. Goosen has a 10’ putt for birdie and the win on the 1st playoff hole.He pushes it to the right and they go to the 17. Goosen from rough of the tee to rough on right gives the advantage to green who puts a 4 iron 12’ from the pin.Goosen plays a superb 3rd shot to 9’ of the cup but Green is putting for the win.He leaves it short but Retief again pushes his par putt and Nathan Green is the champion at the RBC Canadian Open, his first win on the PGA Tour. Anthony Kim and Jason Dufner started in the lead on the 4th round but rounds of 1 over par for both led to a tie for 3rd place at -14. Lee Jantzen jumped from T 30 to T 5th with 67 in the last round and Brandt Snedeker from T18 to T 5th with 68.
