| PGA WGC Bridgestone Invitational Akron, Ohio, 4th round |
Padraig Harrington started the last round with a 3 shots lead over his playing partner Tiger Woods and did nothing wrong in the first 9 holes with 9consecutive pars. Not bad on Sunday on this difficult golf course, but not enough when your opponent eagles the par 5 2nd,birdies 4 to tie,5 to take the lead and 9 for a 5 under par 30 on the front nine. The Tiger express transformed a 3 shot deficit in a 2 shot lead But Harrington is a 3 time major winner, mentally tough,he kept grinding and with his frst birdie at 11 got within 1 shot. Then Tiger who is such a great front runner surprisingly cave in with bogeys at 13 and 14 to surrender the lead by 1 to a very consistant Padraig. They were put on the clock at the monster par 5 16th,that didn’t helped as they both send their tee-shots in the rough,Harrington in the trees on the right and Tiger way left.Tiger could only get his ball back on the fairway quite a long way from the green,Padraig’s recovery shot ended on the collar of a fairway bunker. That’s when Tiger’s genius came through. He’s facing a shot over the pond from 172 yards where no player has been able to get close to the hole with sand-wedges in their hands. He hit an 8 iron which landed near the pin and rolled back within a foot for a sure birdie.INCREDIBLE !! Harrington flew the green with his 3rd and the following delicate flop shot went through the green,in the water. He made triple bogey 8,a 4 shots swing and a 3 shots lead for Tiger with 2 holes to play. It’s over. Woods birdied 18 to finish in style,5 under par 65 on the last round,-12 total.Harrington managed ta save par on 18 after an errand 2nd shot to finish in 2nd place tie with Robert Allenby.Hunter Mahan(68)and Angel Cabrera (67) are T 4.Stewart Cink, the British Open champion played well for his return,T 6 with Steve Stricker and MiguelA. Jimenez. “It was a great battle,we locked horns pretty good”said Tiger, and Harrington “We’ll do battle many more times again.” Tiger is the first player ever to win 7 times on the same golf course it is his second victory in 2 weeks, the 5th in 2009 and the #70 on the PGA TOUR. He seems to be in top form going to the PGA Championship this week at Hazeltine, who’s going to bet against him?
