91st PGA CHAMPIONSHIP Hazeltine National Golf Club, Sunday 16th
91st PGA CHAMPIONSHIP Hazeltine National Golf Club, Sunday 16th

Tiger Woods takes a 2 shots lead into the last round on Sunday.

A cloudy, windy day at Hazeltine Golf Club for the third round of the 91st PGA Championship in Chaska,Minnesota.

Tiger Woods started the day at -7 with a 4 shots lead but surrendered half of it with a 1 under par 71.Everybody thought he would separate himself even more from the field but it was the pursuers who got the best of the course and got close as Tiger after an early birdie at 2 and a 3 putt bogey at 4 made the turn at-7,level par for the front nine.Padraig Harrington, who else ,tied Woods with a birdie at 11 and Y.E. Yang got to -6 with 3 birdies at 14,15 and 16, T3 with Ernie Els. Woods birdied the short par 4 14 with a bladed sand-wedge off the fringe to the delight of the huge crowd surrounding the green. That took him to -8 and a 1 shot lead over Harrington. Y.E. Yang posted -6 for the championship equalling the best round 67 of the tournament shot by Tiger on Thursday. Henrick Stenton had a 4 under par 68 that could have been better as he missed 2 short birdie putts at 17 and 18. Els bogeyed 16,17 and 18 in a horrible finish to drop to -3. It looked like we were heading for another thrilling Tiger-Padraig showdown on Sunday but the Irishman misclubed his 2nd shot at 18 and ended with a bogey, his first since the same hole on Friday. He finished at -6 tied for 2nd place with Korea’s Y.E. Yang who will have the dubious honor to start in the last group with the world #1. Woods hit 2 great shots at 18 but failed to convert his putt for birdie. His playing partner Vijay Singh had a horrendous day with the putter and dropped to level par for the championship. However Vijay had the best shot of the day to the green at 18,within 3 feet, and ended the round with a birdie. U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover was at some point 2 shots from the lead at -5 but finished T4 with Sweden’s Henrik Stenson at -4. The big story of Tiger’s round is that he failed to take advantage of any of the four par 5, four pars on the holes where he normally makes the difference especially when they are as long as these at Hazeltine. All together not a bad day at work with a 1 under par 71 and it makes things interesting for the last round on Sunday. His playing partner Y.E. Yang has been playing well on his last 3 starts,we’ll see how he handles himself with the world #1 at his side. It might be a good thing for Harrington to start just in front of Tiger,he won’t have to worry about anything but his own game and if he keeps playing that good he might apply some pressure on the leader. He will be paired on Sunday with Henrik Stenson.
