PGA Championship, Sunday 16th

South KoreanY.E. Yang wins the 91st PGA Championship !!

On Sunday August 16 2009 for the first time ever an Asian-born player won a Major Golf Tournament.
At Hazeltine National Golf Club,on Sunday, Y.E Yang stunned the fans and the golf world beating playing partner Tiger Woods by 3 shots to take the 91st PGA Championship.
Yang is also the first player to defeat Tiger Woods in a major championship when Woods held the third-round lead.

It was very windy in Chaska,Minnesota, for the last round of the PGA Championship. Tiger Woods is leading by 2 shots over playing partner Y.E. Yang and Padraig Harrington.
The first two holes were in my mind the most important of the round, though nothing happened scorewise, because Tiger’s missed putts for birdie from 5’at 1 and 12’ at 2 set up his putting for the day. After that he didn’t make anything, showing confusion, and frustration later on as his putts didn’t find the bottom of the cup.
Yang birdied the 3rd hole to get at -7 and Tiger 3 putted the 4th for a bogey, they were Tied for the first time, Harrington and Lucas Glover 1 shot behind at-6.Not for long as Y.E. bogeyed the 5th ,back to -6.
As they both failed to birdie the par 5 7th, the par 3 8th was creating havoc in the pairs in front and the major victim was Padraig Harrington who took 8 shots to complete it,a quinteple bogey to drop to -1.Padraig,who everybody saw as the main threat to Tiger, took himself out of the chase, not unlike he did it a week before at the par 5 16th hole of the WGC. 2009 Masters champion Angel Cabrera also took 8 at the 182 yards par 3. Glover bogeyed the 8th after dropping a shot at the 6th and was at -4.
Tiger dropped another shot at the 8th,Yang missed his birdie putt and as they pared the 9th they made the turn co-leaders at-6, 3 shots ahead of Glover,Stenson,20 years old McIlroy and Soren Kjeldsen.Woods is 2 over and Yang level par for the front nine, and though there is a lot of golf left it looks like we’r heading for a showdown between the 14 times major champion #1 of the world Tiger Woods and the 110th ranked South Korean Y.E. Yang whose best finish in a major tournament is T30.
Tiger birdies 11 to take a 1 shot lead but gives it back with a bogey at 12,again tied with Y.E. who is playing beautifuly, looking very relaxed all along, seemingly not bothered by the magnitud of the situation.
Six-time Major Champion TV commentator Nick Faldo put it right on the spot saying that the 91st PGA Championship could be define by one great shot,or one very bad on the six holes left. His analysis poved to be perfect as Yang, just short right of the green at the short par 4 14 chipped in for an eagle 2 and took momentaraly a 2 shots lead at -8.Woods answered with a 10’putt for birdie, and for the first time in the championship trailed by1.
Pars at 15 and 16 led to the difficult par 3 17,Yang on the green,Tiger with what seemed to be a perfect tee-shot saw his ball sail over the flag and over the green. He makes bogey and Y.E. 3-putts,missing the opportunity to go to the last hole with a 2 shots cushion. There’s still hope for Tiger.
Yang is just a bit more than 200 yards from the pin on the left of the fairway,a blind shot to the green over a tree.He chooses a 3-hybrid club and hit another career shot 8 feet from the hole, leaving Tiger with little or no chance.Woods approach shot ends just left of the green in the rough,he misses the birdie chip and Y.E.Yang makes his 8’ putt for birdie to finish in a florish at -8 for the tournament .Woods’ bogey at 18 is unconsequential,South Korean Y.E. Yang is the 2009 91st PGA Champion.
Disappointment was showing on Woods face, for the fisrt time in his career he couldn’t hold the lead in the last round of a major championship. He shot 3 over par 75 including 33 putts,it is his 5th runner-up place in majors. “I didn’t make anything all day,I hit the ball very well but misread some putts and hit badly some others” said Tiger. “It was only a question of time before an Asian player won a Major...Y.E. didn’t make any mistake all day save on 17,he played great an deserves it.”
Lee Westwood (ENG) and Rory McIlroy(NIRL) finished T 3 at -3, 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover 5th at -2, Henrik Stenson(SWE), Ernie Els(SAF), Martin Kaymer(GER)and Soren Kjeldsen(DEN) T 6 at -1.

37 years old from Seoul Y.E. Yang is the first Asian-born to win a major golf tournament and he did it under enormous pressure, paired with the world # 1 who has never been defeated on the last day of a major championship when he held the third-round lead. Y.E. played great golf, shooting with 4 other players the best round of the day 2 under par.He never seemed to be intimidated by his playing partner Tiger Woods, the only time he showed some nerves was on the 17 when he left his birdie putt 8 feet short and missed his bid for par.

Yang has tamed the Tiger ! South Korea and Asia have finally a Hero in the Golf History Books,Y.E. Yang won the 2009 PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

This week the PGA TOUR will be in Greensboro,North Carolina, for the Wyndham Championship, the last event before the Fedex Cup Playoffs.Check out the betting lines at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook.
