Tiger Woods in 2007,Vijay Singh in 2008,....2009 ?
On Thursday August 27 a field of 125 players will start in the first Fedex Cup Playoff at The Barclays in New Jersey. The top 100 will then enter the Deutsche Bank Championship and only 70 will go on to the BMW Championship to try to qualify in the top 30 for the fourth and last event THE TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. The winner of each Playoff will receive 2,500 Fedex points,5 times the amount of the regular season tournaments,so there will be huge changes in the standings and everyone stands a chance to get in the defining last event. The points will be reset for THE TOUR Championship,2,500 for the leader in the standings,2,250 for the second,2,000 for the third and so on down to 210 for the 30th . Tiger Woods is currently leading by 1,276 points but due to the increase of points awarded in the playoffs and the reset for the last event his lead is not as decisive as it was when he won the Fedex Cup in 2007.Every player who makes it to East Lake will have a mathematical chance to win and the top 5 will control their own destiny with a win in the last playoff. Those changes guarantee that nobody will run away with the Trophy like Vijay Singh did last year after winning the first 2 playoffs events. Tiger decided to play at The Barclays and there is a possibility that he will participate in the four playoffs as it is imperative to be in the top five for THE TOUR Championship and he surely wants to tee-up in the decisive tournament on top of the standings with 2,500 points.
