Kenny Perry takes a 2-shot lead into Sunday’s last round

Saturday morning 49 year-old Kenny Perry birdied the first four holes at East Lake to take the lead at -6 and never looked back.He went out in 31 after a bogey at 6 and birdie at 7 and with birdies at 12 and 15 on the back nine finished at -8 with so far the best round of the championship 64.Geoff Ogilvy also shot 64 and moved from dead last to a tie for 17th place. Perry leads by 2 shots over Tiger Woods at -6 and by 4 over Sean O’Hair and Phil Mickelson at -4.Mickelson seems to have found his best game at East lake,he shot 66 Saturday following a 67 on Friday.He is in contention for the first time since the US Open in June.Harrington dropped a shot,he’s at -3 T 5th with Steve Marino, and Steve Stricker who had a good round 66 is T 7th with Ernie Els at -2. John Senden,Stewart Cink,Angel Cabrera and Jerry Kelly are T 9th at -1.

Kenny Perry has the opportunity to redeem himself from the loss at The Masters earlier this year when he had a 2-shot lead with 2 holes to play on Sunday afternoon.He bogeyed 17 and 18 and went on to lose the playoff to Angel Cabrera. Sunday at East Lake,playing with the world #1 for THE TOUR Championship title with his son Justin on the bag has all the makings of a potential unforgetable day for the 49 year-old Kentuckian.Asked how he felt about being paired with Tiger he said: “I love playing with him.He’s a great guy,great competitor,and we all learn from him.He’s made us all better.He’s made me better.Here I am at 49,I am still trying to beat him.”And added jokingly “He’d better bring his “A”game is all I’ve got to say.”

Perry played flawless golf Saturday,the only mistake coming from a 3-putt bogey at the 6th hole.He would like nothing better than hold off Woods and the whole field of “youngsters” with a similar performance on the last round. He has total confidence in his driver and will be ahead of Woods on most of the fairways.The key is to keep his mind on winning THE TOUR Championship which he controls at the moment with a 2 shot lead and and try to forget about the Fedex Cup standings and the $10 million bonus prize.The outcome is out of his hands,the only thing he can do and must do to have a chance is to win on Sunday,concentrate on beating his playing partner the world #1.

Tiger is controlling the Fedex Cup standings,if he stays in second place alone at THE TOUR Championship he will take the Fedex trophy and the prize but we all know that this is not the way he would like that to end.He wants to take the Fedex Cup with a win on Sunday like he did 1n 2007 and Perry will get his wish as Tiger Woods will for sure bring his “A”game for the last round at East Lake. “As of right now I am two back and have an opportunity to win the tournament.And that’s what I am going to focuse on tomorrow.”The message cannot be clearer than that.

Sean O’Hair and Padraig Harrington are still in the mix and Steve Stricker gave himself an outside chance sitting 6 shots behind Perry and 4 from Tiger.For all those guys there is a commun factor,if they want the Fedex Cup they have to win THE TOUR Championship.
