PGA TOUR - Defending champion Dustin Johnson one of the favorites at Pebble Beach AT&T PEBBLE BEACH NATIONAL PRO-AM, CALIFORNIA
Dustin Johnson comes to Pebble beach with momentum, playing well in his first two 21010 starts. After a 16th place at the Sony Open in Hawaii, he shared third on Sunday at the Northern Trust Open. He could have had a run at the title, but struggled in the rain shooting 74 on Saturday. He followed with a sterling 66 on Sunday, but Steve Stricker had built too much of the lead and held on.

The 6-foot 4, 25-year old won the rain-shortened event last year, his second victory of his impressive short career. Johnson played a practice round Tuesday at the 6,900-yard par-70 Monterey Peninsula CC, which replaces Poppy Hills in the three-course rotation.

“It was playing really long” said the big hitter from Columbia, SC. “I was the only one who got to the 16th in two and it’s a par 4.”

I Expect another good performance from the young, laid-back Johnson at Pebble Beach.

Despite a slow start of the season, Phil Mickelson still is everybody’s favorite. Lefty thrives in this environment, he has three victories and two third-place finishes on the Monterey Peninsula to prove it.

England’s Luke Donald says is more focused than ever, and his runner-up finish at Riviera shows for it. Jim Furyk is looking to break a two-year drought, and Retief Goosen, who had a shot at winning on his first start at Pebble Beach in 2009 before the weather wiped out the last round, has two top-10s in two starts in 2010.

Brandt Snedeker is ranked ninth in FeDexCup points after three straight top-25 finishes this season. He was runner-up two weeks ago at Torrey Pines, improving on a 10th place at the Bob Hope Classic the week before.

It’s golf, a lot of players could rise to the top and take the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am title. All of them think they have a shot when Tiger is not teeing-up.
