You should get good odds on the spunky Poulter at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook for a bet on back-to-back wins. The Brit is a great match play competitor, we’ll see if he can carry his form to a stroke play tournament. Defending champion Kenny Perry is well rested after getting bounced in the first round last week, he finished sixth at Kapalua on his only other start this year. The two-time champion in Phoenix, and always everybody’s favorite, Phil Mickelson, is expected to make a move after a rather pedestrian start of the season, as he’s looking to make 2010 a banner season. Camilo “el hombre araña” Villegas missed a 3-foot putt last Saturday that would have put him in the final at the Accenture Match Play Championship. The Columbian star is playing well, I expect him to be in contention this week, as well as other long hitters such as J.B. Holmes and Geoff Ogilvy who can overpower TPC Scottsdale. Ogilvy’s wife gave birth to their third child a little over a week ago, that could explain his poor title-defense bid last week at the Accenture. However, the Scottsdale resident is playing in his backyard and knows desert golf well. With everything going well with his family, he should be a factor this week. Brian Gay had an outstanding showing in his first match play appearance, and he loves the course in Phoenix. He can make lots of birdies, despite hitting shorter than most of the field, and finished T6 in 2009. The Aussie Robert Allenby has been steady this season, with runner-up, T9 and T27 finishes in stroke play. His second round loss last week was a bit of a disappointment, but his improved putting stroke should bring him back soon to the winners circle. TPC Scottsdale is the fan-favorite Tour stop. The beautiful and famous par-3 16th hole will be the center of a roaring stadium during the event, staging the shots of the best players in the world. Nobody enjoys it better than Phil Mickelson, he really cherishes the attention. With Tiger Woods momentarily out of the picture, all the players on Tour think (with reason) they have a chance to win. That makes Golf betting even more interesting and exciting - who would bet against Tiger when he’s in the field? Ian Poulter, fresh from his first win on American soil last week at the WGC-Accenture Match Play in Dove Mountain, will tee up at TPC Scottsdale in Phoenix to try to make it two in a row in the Arizona desert. The Englishman showed he can play on those golf courses, but the strain of match play for 112 holes might be tough to overcome, not mentioning the celebration that must have followed his brilliant victory.
