When will Tiger be back on TOUR?

Two persons with knowledge of his plans have told The Associated Press that Tiger Woods intends to remain away from golf competition at least until the Masters at Augusta National in April.

However, the World No.1 has been practicing at Isleworth near his Orlando home the last two weeks, and swing coach Hank Haney flew there during the weekend to work with him. So he should be close to playing again.

Thank God. Let’s be honest, the PGA Tour is much more exciting when Tiger is teeing up. He sets the bar a little higher for all the players, and is generally the instigator of memorable finishes.

The betting changes altogether when Woods is in the field, he’s one of the few athletes you can’t ignore in Sports betting. He defies the odds by winning an astonishing third of the tournaments he enters, something never seen in golf.

Woods hasn’t played since Nov. 15, when he thrilled the Australian fans by winning the JBWere Masters in Melbourne for his 82nd career victory. Twelve days later, he crashed his SUV into a tree near his Florida home, sparkling the ensuing scandal.

The only other time Tiger entered a major after such a long layoff was the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, when he was out nine weeks following his father’s death. That’s where he missed the cut for the first time at a major.

Several reports said that Woods was planning to return at Bay Hill for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, where he is the defending champion and a six-time winner. Bay Hill is the only regular PGA TOUR event that he’s never missed since turning pro.

Tournament director Scott Wellington already had made contingency plans for media and security, as have other PGA TOUR events when they learned that Woods had returned to practice.

“At this point we still don’t know,” Wellington said. “He has until next Friday to commit. But it was a busy day, for sure. We had a lot of calls, a lot of interest and we sold some tickets. It was interesting.”

Bay Hill was the first tournament Tiger won last year after an eight-month layoff from knee surgery.

If the Masters is the come-back event, Woods will bid for his fifth Green Jacket. He rocked the World of Golf at Augusta in 1997, becoming the youngest champion at 21 years 3 months 14 days, with the lowest 72-hole score (270).

I’m not really interested in what Tiger Woods does off the golf course, he’s the best golfer ever and I hope he’ll come back asap and at his best level.
