Couples and Watson are back on the Champions Tour
Couples and Watson are back on the Champions Tour Following an impressive performance last week at the Masters, Fred Couples and Tom Watson tee up this Friday at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Florida.

Fifty-year-old Couples had the lead at Augusta National with an opening 66 on the first round, followed by 60-year-old Watson who shot 65. Amazing performance by the two senior champions, Freddy finishing in 6th place alone, and Tom T18.

Couples has three straight victories on the Champions Tour in his rookie year, and the only player to defeat him was Watson at the season opener in Hawaii.

Is anybody capable of beating Couples on the 50-and-over Tour?

All the great players on the Champions Tour are chasing Couples, the first player to notch three straight wins in his rookie year.

Watson won the Outback Steakhouse Pro-am in 2007-08, he’ll challenge Freddy at TPC Tampa Bay and we might see another fantastic duel between them.

Tom Lehman has three top-5 finishes in three starts, he’s ready to win and could take advantage of a letdown from Couples and Watson after their draining performances at the Masters.

Bernhard Langer missed the cut at Augusta, but the German returns to a course where he always plays well, he might be the one to dethrone Couples.

Loren Roberts is looking to regain the form that won him the Charles Schwab Cup in 2009. Always great with the putter, he’s got three top-5s out of six starts this season. It won’t be long before he claims his first victory.

Defending champion Nick Price won for the first time on the Champions Tour at this event last year, ending a surprising 0-38 streak. I expected the South African to fare better with the Seniors, his only victory came on a crazy round where he had three double-bogeys and seven birdies to beat Larry Nelson by two strokes.

Couples will be riding a golf cart this weekend, not that he looked he needed it at Augusta National. However, that will help his back problems and he’ll be looking to take his fourth consecutive Champions Tour title.

A great tournament with a stellar field.
