The Aussie felt at home in the heart of Texas, with scrubland off the fairways and greens surrounded by sand. “I had a feeling Aussies would do well here this week,” Scott said. He was right on the money, ending a two-tear drought with a 67 on Sunday afternoon, following a 66 in his third round in the morning to get 4 shots behind leader J.B. Holmes. This is the third consecutive week the winner has come racing through the weekend to claim the title on the PGA TOUR. Rory McIlroy shot an amazing 16 under at Quail Hollow two weeks ago, and Tim Clark 11 under to claim THE PLAYERS Championship last week. That’s what makes golf betting so exciting. Scott finished at 14-under 274 on the course designed by his hero, fellow countryman Greg Norman who sent Adam a congratulatory message after his win, his seventh TOUR victory and first since the 2008 HP Byron Nelson Championship. “I questioned myself at times last year whether I was a great player or not,” said Scott. “I still feel I am.” It looked like Scott had the tournament won when he had a 3-shot lead over Jacobson in the late stages of the final round. An untimely bogey at the par-5 18 took the Aussie back to 14 under, and with a birdie at the difficult 15 the Swede got within one shot. Jacobson had his chance to force a playoff at the 17, missing a 10-foot birdie putt, and another one with an 18-footer from the fringe at the closing hole. Ernie Els, Aaron Baddeley and Jimmy Walker finished tied for third place at 12 under, while Tim Petrovic and tour rookie Garth Mulroy were T6 at 11 under. J.B. Holmes had the 54-hole lead but fell apart from the start in the final round. He shot 4-over 76 and finished T13 at -8. Ryan Palmer had the best final round, 8-under 64, and moved from 48 to a tie for ninth place. Scott got his first top-10 finish this year, two weeks after he missed the cut at Quail Hollow and tied for 26th at THE PLAYERS. The 29-year-old earned $1,098,000 and 500 FedExCup points, moving to 17th place in the standings, 774 points behind leader Ernie Els. Scott’s last three Tour victories have come in Texas. He won the Shell Houston Open in 2007 and the HP Byron Nelson Championship two years ago, where the players are heading this week. Texas must really feel like home for the Aussie.
