Phil Mickelson and Tim Clark headline field at Colonial
Phil Mickelson and Tim Clark headline field at Colonial Masters champion Phil Mickelson and THE PLAYERS champion Tim Clark are among the top favorites this week at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial CC.

It’s a great tournament to get started on golf betting. BetPhoenix offers you the widest range of options in sport betting, take advantage of our special Bonus Packages and put a few wagers on your favorite players on each round.

Mickelson has won this event twice and finished runner-up once. He’s looking to take the World No. 1 spot from Tiger Woods in the Official World Golf Ranking, something he’s wanted for many years. He should be a factor this week.

Tim Clark, after eight runner-up finishes, finally got his first win on the PGA TOUR three weeks ago at THE PLAYERS. The South African will be well rested on his first appearance since the victory, and has finished runner-up in his last two starts at Colonial (including a loss to Steve Stricker in a playoff last year). His first win must have taken the monkey off his back and he’ll be looking for more. He’s first on TOUR in fairways hit and second in putting.

Jim Furyk has already won twice this season, and his record at Colonial –six top 10s in 14 starts- shows the course suits his game. Always a dangerous player when in contention.

Ben Crane is one the hottest player right now. He finished T4 at THE PLAYERS and T7 at the Byron Nelson. He’s getting close to notch a win.

Jeff Overton is still looking for his first win on the PGA TOUR, but he nearly got there in New Orleans where he was solo second, and was in contention last Sunday, finishing T2 at the Byron Nelson. He’ll just have to post a better final round to claim his first victory.

Fredrik Jacobson was runner-up at the Valero Texas Open, following a T10 at THE PLAYERS. The Swede is the hottest European on TOUR at the moment, with only three holes over par at TPC San Antonio where he played bogey-free his last 39 holes. Also looking for his first PGA TOUR title.

Sean O’Hair should be ready to cap his consistent season with a win, he was second in greens hit last year here on his way to a T18 finish.

Dustin Johnson finished T7 last week. The big-hitter had cooled down after his win at Pebble Beach, but is regaining his form. Johnson is always one of my favorite young gun, he’s capable of winning anytime he tees-up.

Adam Scott and Jason Day won the last two weeks in Texas, could another Aussie win in Ft. Worth and complete the “Texas swing” for Australia?

Day will try for back-to-back wins, and Geoff Ogilvy leads a strong group of 10 more Aussies - including Michael Sim and James Nitties. Another Australian winner in Texas at Colonial wouldn’t surprise me at all. They seem to feel at home in the Lone Star State.
