Woods and Mickelson lead stellar field at Memorial Tournament Four-time winner Tiger Woods makes an early return from a neck injury -that forced him to retire early in the final round at THE PLAYERS- at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.

However, it is Phil Mickelson who starts as the favorite at the Jack Nicklaus’ golf course. The World No. 2 missed the cut at Colonial last week, missing too many fairways on the tight track, but there is a greater margin of error off the tee at Muirfield Village. The difficulty rises closer to the hole, and we know Phil is a magician at the short game.

Golf betting is at its best with the renewed Woods – Mickelson rivalry. Check out the odds and the pairings at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook and put a few wagers on your favorite players.

Tiger had a tumultuous return since his five months layoff from November to April at the Masters. The World No. 1 will make his first title defense of 2010, he could make some noise with his ability to dominate on the par 5s. The lack of competitive golf, though, might be a factor around the greens as his touch should not be at the highest level. Winning is a tall order for Tiger, but he has surprised us many times before.

Ernie Els, who leads the FedExCup Standings, won here in 2004 and has 10 top 15s in 16 starts. The South African won twice already this year on the PGA TOUR, he loves the course and finished T3 at the Valero Texas Open three weeks ago. He usually shines on elite fields.

Geoff Ogilvy finished in the top 10 here the last three years. His third-round 63 last year was one of the best rounds of golf by anyone last season, and he comes off a T13 at Colonial. I always expect the Australian to show his great talent.

Young guns Bryce Molder and Jeff Overton have been all over the front page of the leaderboards this season. They are both looking for their first PGA TOUR win, we’ll see how they fare against the best players of the world.

Bo Van Pelt is another player with momentum, he has four top 10s in his last five starts, including a T10 at Colonial. It won’t be long before he claims his second victory on TOUR.

Long hitters Camilo Villegas and Dustin Johnson haven’t been in contention for a while. Muirfield Village Golf Course should suit their game, they could found their winning form back this week and be in the race for the title.
