The Montreal Canadiens Fight for their Playoff Lives Against the Boston Bruins
Resurgent Devils Take On Batterd Penguins In NHL East ActionThe Montreal Canadiens are in danger of not being able to catch their rivals, the Boston Bruins in the division or the conference standings. The upcoming game against the Bruins could make all the difference in this year race.

The Canadiens' chances of catching the Bruins in the Northeast Division took a hit Tuesday night when Montreal dropped a 2-0 decision to the Sabres.

The Canadiens are three points behind the Bruins going into their Thursday night game in Boston, but they are at a disadvantage because they have only eight games to play and the Bruins have 10.

Coach Jacques Martin faces a decision on whether to rush some of his injured players back into the lineup for the Boston game or give them some additional to get ready for the playoffs. Tomas Plekanec, Jeff Halpern, Mathieu Darche and Brent Sopel all participated in the morning skate Tuesday, and Martin described their status as day-to-day.

But Darche put the situation in perspective when he said he still has to get back into game shape, and his teammates are in a similar position.

That's particularly true for Darche, Plekanec and Halpern, who all suffered lower-body injuries and have been unable to skate. Sopel had a broken bone in his hand, so he has a head start because he has continued to skate.

Meanwhile, Andrei Markov has resumed skating, but the Canadiens say there is no chance he'll return before next season. In December, Markov had his second major knee surgery in six months. The consensus is that he returned to action too soon after the first operation. He will take his time returning from the second operation.

The Canadiens are 37-18 in the last 55 meetings and get a much needed win over the Boston bruins.
