The Award Winning Boston Bruins Battle the Ottawa Senators

The Boston Bruins are having an award winning season and it seems like they don’t care who they face in the playoffs. It will be interesting to see if they are eager to face off against the Ottawa Senators.

The Bruins handed out annual awards before Wednesday night's game. Right wing Shawn Thornton won the Eddie Shore Award given by the "Gallary Gods" for hustle; goalie Tim Thomas got the Elizabeth Dufresne Trophy, given by the local media, for outstanding performance in home games; defenseman Andrew Ference won the John P. Bucyk Award, chosen by Bucyk for charitable endeavors; while Thomas, center Patrice Bergeron and left wing Milan Lucic were chosen as the first, second and third stars for home games.

Regardless of whether the B's finish second or third in the conference, the Canadiens, Sabres, Rangers and Hurricanes were all possible first-round opponents.

And playing any of those four teams means going up against a top goaltender, with Carey Price (Montreal), Ryan Miller (Buffalo), Henrik Lundqvist (New York) or Cam Ward (Carolina) out there lurking.

The B's beat the Islanders Wednesday night to move to within two points of the idle Flyers for second place (with first out of reach). The B's host the Senators Saturday and visit New Jersey Sunday, playing two more teams out of the playoffs. The Flyers are at Buffalo Friday and finish at home against the Islanders Saturday.

So while there's a chance at second place, there's also the desire not to get hurt before the playoffs, which has to be on the minds of the players. The Bruins take it easy and don’t care about this game.
