The New Jersey Devils end the Regular Season Against the Boston Bruins
The New Jersey Devils end the Regular Season Against the Boston BruinsThe New Jersey Devils will end the season against the Boston Bruins and they should go out on a sour note. The Devils don’t like the way the season is going and will do some house cleaning as the season winds down.

Zach Parise has most likely played his last game with the Devils. The star left wing, who played one game last Saturday after missing five months from right knee surgery, missed his second straight game Wednesday night and then said after the game he was shutting it down for the two remaining games.

After all, spoiling things for the rival Rangers isn't enough to take any chances.

Parise is eligible to become a restricted free agent July 1 and there are questions over whether or not this team can come up with the money to pay him.More on that comes down the road. For now, Parise sits out as the Devils go for some small season consolation by finishing at or above the NHL .500 mark.

Not a big deal? Well, it is when the record was 10-29-2 after a Jan. 8 loss to the Flyers.

The New Jersey win over the Maple Leafs Wednesday night left the record at 37-38-5, with weekend games against the Rangers (road) and Bruins. In the interest of full disclosure, we must state that even if the Devils finish at or over NHL .500, they will actually be under .500 because of those five extra-time losses.

Regardless, this has been an impressive run, one where Ilya Kovalchuk came to life and the young players got a chance to play and mature. There was a real run at a playoff spot that wound up falling well short, but this was a real charge by a team that was left for dead in December and January.

The Devils will now try to play spoiler against the rival Rangers, and will play the last two games without Zach Parise, who has been shut down after playing just one game five months after knee surgery.

The Devils will not be interested in this game against the Bruins and will lose.
