The Dallas Stars Hope to Make One Last Run Against the Minnesota Wild

The Dallas Stars have made quite a turnaround and want to end the season on a high note. In order to do that they will need to take down the Minnesota Wild.

Hanging in the playoff race heading into the season's final weekend is a sign of progress for the Stars. This time last year, the team had already been eliminated from playoff contention, punishment for their sag following the Olympic break. They finished with 88 points.

Now they at least have some hope that they can end their two-year playoff drought.

The thinking among the most realistic of Stars fans was that the team had no chance to make the playoffs, not after a recent 1-5-3 slump.Three straight wins have given the players hope.

"Our desperation's obviously the highest it's been all year," left wing Steve Ott said. "This team's resilience, the character that we've had all year on this team, we've had that underdog mentality all season. Everyone around the league, from the media to the league to our own fans, have put this team down and for us, we've prided ourselves to be a team that competes every game. Win or lose, I can only think of two or three games where we didn't show up, the rest of them we competed right to the end."

The offseason can't get here fast enough for the Wild, which is decimated by injury and overmatched in virtually every single game, especially when facing the Vancouver Canucks.

The Wild's auditioning a couple young kids for next year, but that makes the matchups even tougher for under-the-gun coach Todd Richards.

The Wild are playing for net year, making this an easy win for the Dallas Stars
