The Boston bruins Look to Even the Series against the Montreal Canadiens
The Boston bruins Look to Even the Series against the Montreal CanadiensThe Montreal Canadiens have always played hard against the Boston bruins, but it was never more evident than in a victory in game one of the NHL playoffs.

The Habs didn't play a perfect road game in Boston on Thursday night, but they came close. "Obviously, they played the game that they wanted to play and for ourselves we played a pretty good game," said left wing Milan Lucic, who added, "but it just goes to show that in the playoffs here and going into Saturday we're going to have to bring just a little bit more in order to get the win."

Somewhere along the line, the Bruins are going to have to figure out a way to score goals if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs.

The Bruins were blanked at home by the Canadiens in Thursday night's series-opener and have scored just 22 goals in their last 10 games. You don't need to be a math genius to know that averages out to 2.2 goals per game, and you don't need to be a hockey genius to know you need more than 2.2 goals to win most games. In Game 1, they couldn't even reach that number as they fell 2-0 when they couldn't get the puck past Carey Price.

The trouble starts at the top. Five of the top six Boston forwards are at least in mini-scoring slumps.

Left wing Milan Lucic hasn't scored a goal in 11 games and his center, David Krejci, has gone five without one and scored once in the last 13. On the second line, center Patrice Bergeron hasn't scored in his last 12 games and has one goal in his last 20, right wing Mark Recchi has one goal in his last 10 and left wing Brad Marchand hasn't scored in the last six.

The lack of scoring didn't hurt at the end of the regular season, with the Bruins taking control of the No. 3 seed and riding out the schedule. But now, after getting shut out by Montreal in Game 1, the offensive impotence has created what looks like a must-win situation for Game 2 Saturday night.

If the Bruins can’t start scoring soon, they could be out of the playoffs.
