| Devil May Care Dominant In CCA Oaks At Saratoga |
Trainer Todd Pletcher had nothing but praise for his charge: “We tried to do the right thing after the Derby and give her plenty of time to the Mother Goose. She rewarded us with a big effort and did the same today. I’ve felt all along that this filly is the best of her generation and if she continues to run like today, I think she’ll prove it.” Pletcher suggested that her performance was vindication for the lackluster Kentucky Derby performance: “You can see by the way that she won today why we tried the Kentucky Derby.” Devil May Care relaxed off the pace until the stretch, when jockey John Velazquez set her loose. After the race, Velazquez recounted his ride: “When I let her go, she was there for me. I wanted to have her covered up for a while because she was pulling pretty strong going through the backstretch. … At the quarter-pole, I took another hold of her because I didn’t want to get in the lead too quickly. But she was just dragging me up at that point.” 2009 Canadian champion two-year-old filly Biofuel finished second, with Acting Happy finishing third. Devil May Care went off as a 7 to 10 favorite and paid 3.40 to win. Next up for Devil May Care is a date with the sport’s other top three year old filly, Blind Luck, in the Grade 1 Betfair TVG Alabama Stakes on August 21 at Saratoga. Blind Luck has started six times this year and has four wins, a second and a third with her most notable victory being a narrow win in the Kentucky Oaks.

Since finishing a disappointing 10th in the Kentucky Derby, three year old filly Devil May Care has been on a roll. On Saturday, she followed up her June win in the Mother Goose Stakes with an even more impressive four length victory in the $250,000 Betfair TVG Coaching Club American Oaks held at Saratoga Race Course. The victory established Devil May Care as the top three year old filly in horse racing, and brought comparisons to 2009 distaff superstar Rachel Alexandra.
