NASCAR Sprint Cup Irwin Tools Night Race Preview

NASCAR heats up the weekend as race fans will enjoy a spectacle at Bristol motor speedway during the Irwin Tools Night Race. The sportsbook for racing fans to bet on NASCAR events is Bet Phoenix. This top rated sportsbook will have odds on this race as well as all the other big NASCAR events.

Kyle Busch hit the trifecta last season at Bristol Motor Speedway and once again made history in NASCAR. Busch became the first driver in NASCAR to win all three of its national touring series races in the same week.

After winning the Camping World Truck race earlier in the week and the Nationwide event two days later, Busch put on a dominating performance in the IRWIN Tools Night Race by leading 282 of 500 laps and holding off David Reutimann at the finish by 0.68 seconds to sweep the week at the 0.533-mile, high-banked Tennessee track. The last five Bristol races have had a margin of victory under one second.

Back-to-back wins at this race are the norm in recent years, as Matt Kenseth doubled in 2005-06, Edwards in 2007-08 and Busch the past two seasons. Other drivers to have doubled at Bristol are Dale Earnhardt (1987-88), Darrell Waltrip (1981-83), Cale Yarborough (1976-78), David Pearson (1968-69) and Fred Lorenzen (1963-64). It should be noted that Waltrip and Yarborough accomplished the three-peat when they won their races.

Kevin Harvick clinched a berth in the Chase last time out with a win in the Carfax 400 at Michigan International Speedway. Harvick now has three wins on the season, and he's in first place in the driver standings by 293 points on Jeff Gordon.

Denny Hamlin, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, Juan Montoya, Martin Truex Jr., Elliott Sadler, and Joey Logano rounded out the Top 10 at Michigan. Gordon ended up back in 27th place.

Hamlin, Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Edwards, Jeff Burton, Kyle Busch, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Biffle, and Clint Bowyer make up the rest of the current Top 12 in the driver standings. Mark Martin is 35 points back of Bowyer for the final Chase berth.

Johnson won the Food City 500 at Bristol earlier this year, while Kyle Busch won both races on the track during the 2009 season. Kyle Busch also won the Food City 500 back in 2007, while brother Kurt has won five Cup races at Bristol in his career.
