On Tuesday March 30 the UEFA Champions League will see its first clash between French teams when the Olympique Lyonnais faces the Girondins de Bordeaux in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Bordeaux ended last year Lyon’s seven-titles winning streak in Ligue 1, and now will try to destroy their dream to reach their first Champions League semi-final.

Both teams have excellent reasons to be confident going into this encounter: Lyon is unbeaten at home in this competition and eliminated mighty Real Madrid FC in the last round, while Bordeaux is the Champions League’s hottest team with seven consecutive victories.

In the matchup this season on Dec. 13 in Lyon for Ligue 1, the Olympique got the home-win 1-0 from Marouane Chamakh’s header on the 86th minute of the game.

The total result of their meetings in the French first division couldn’t be more even: Bordeaux has won 32 encounters and Lyon 31, with 32 draws. The record at the Stade de Gerland is 21 for Lyon, 12 for Bordeaux and 12 draws.

Although Lyon seems to have the advantage at home, the contests between those two teams have always been so close that it’s difficult to pick a winner. Follow your heart and enjoy the game with a bet.

In Tuesday’s second quarter-final, the FC Bayern München is looking to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2001 when they won the title. To do so, the Germans will have to eliminate the Manchester United FC.

The Bayern took down Manchester at that stage in 2001, but that was the last time they passed the QFs, failing to reach the semis in 2002, 05, 07, 09.

Meanwhile the English team will try to make it to the semis for the fourth consecutive time, they became champions in 2008 and runner-up to Barcelona last year.

The Bayern, with two wins one draw and one loss has been inconsistent in Munich. In the group stage they scored only one goal in three home games.

Manchester, on the other hand, has been perfect on the road. With a 2-3 victory over Milan AC, United claimed its fourth road victory and the completed the job with a 4-0 at Old Trafford.

However, the last English team to beat the Bayern in Munich was Norwich City FC in 1994. The Bayern is 5-5 in two-legged ties in European competitions against British opponents, while Manchester is 2-3 facing German teams, those three losses coming in their last three ties.

Those contests between German and English teams are usually very physical, hard-fought games. Manchester will try to keep a perfect record on the road, while the Bayern will try to erase the memory of the 1999 UEFA Champion League final when United famously broke Bayern hearts with extra-time goals from substitutes Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Germans had led for 84 minutes.
