In a matchup between two teams from France’s Ligue 1, Lyon ripped visiting Bordeaux 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup at Stade Gerland. Lyon scored just 10 minutes into the game, with Bordeaux answering just four minutes later to even the score. The home team took the lead for good before halftime and added a late game penalty marker for the final margin of victory. The two teams will rematch next week on Bordeaux’s home pitch at the Stade Chaban Delmas. It was the first all French series in Champions League history, and the two teams have quite a history against one another. Lyon had won seven straight Ligue 1 titles before Bordeaux broke the streak last season. Bordeaux entered this contest having lost the League Cup final to Marseille on Saturday. There had been a good deal of controversy after league officials considered moving the Cup final to Friday, but Lyon officials protested vociferously about giving Bordeaux an extra day to prepare. The other two Champions League quarterfinal matchups get underway on Wednesday. English Premier League entrant Arsenal will host Barcelona in the first leg, with the rematch set for the following week at the Estadio Nou Camp. CSKA Moscow will travel to Italy to face Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan side. The Russian team will wear black arm bands in memory of the 39 victims of this week’s suicide bombings in Moscow subway stations
