| Inter Milan Rules the Champions League |
I have to say - and many agree - it was not the greatest game, it was sinfully boring but it was good enough for the Inter of Milan. Bayern Munich controlled the ball for the best part of the game but there were no ideas, no shocking moves, they were just present in the game. Inter de Milan just waited for the opportunity for a counter attack and it finally came when goal keeper Julio Cesar kicked the ball ¾ into the field, picked up by Sneijder whom quickly made a crossed pass to Diego Militos that shuffled through three defenders and scored the first goal of the game, in minute 35. A second opportunity came just a few minutes later and almost in the same conditions but this time was Milito passing to Sneijder that immediately shot to goal but it was stopped but the Jörg Butt – the Bayern Munich goal keeper -. The rest of the first half remained as monotonous as the beginning of the match. Second half starts with a fast strike form the German team just 5 seconds in to the priod when Mark van Bommel decided to make a statement. But that shipped sailed when Julio Cesar repelled to a corner shot. The game continued like a tennis match, the ball going back and forth without any real direction. A German defensive error was taken advantage off by Diego Milito, again doing the shuffle to strike the second goal of the game. After the second goal the face of defeat was evident in the thousands of German fans present at the Santiago Bernabéu and as well as the players on the field that with no doubt felt helpless and doomed to go home as runner ups. Inter de Milan did not do a fantastic game, it was not even close to a class A game, but they were fortunate enough to get the opportunity of two counter strikes at the precise moment. Bayern Munich was totally lost in the field, they had no ideas no creativity, no precision in the passing and no timing when closing in for the kill. The Germans were stiff and very slow; they could not break the great Italian defensive line. Inter de Milan wins its third cup in 45 years and puts the Italian soccer clubs tied with the Spaniards teams in Champion league cups, 12 cups a piece however Real Madrid has 6 back to backs. Congratulations to Inter de Milan in their win.
