BY DAN THE MAN LEACH ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. There is no doubt that even though it is only week 2, Shoelace is the Heisman favorite as easily as Justin Bieber gets girls at malls to scream. Oregon showed that their preseason ranking was no joke as they went into Tennessee and absolutely blasted the Vols. The Ducks might not have Jeremiah Masoli running the offense anymore , but Darron Thomas is making people forget Masoli was even on this team last year and RB LaMichael James is making an early case for the Heisman. Alabama showed that even without Heisman Trophy RB Mark Ingram, they are still absurdly good. Penn State is not a world beater by any stretch , but they are a good football team that was made to look like Roger Rabbit sans Jessica on Saturday night. We haven't had a repeat champ in college football during the BCS era, that has a very good chance of changing in January. ARGUMENTS LOST- Virginia Tech basically showed us that they either have no idea how to respond the week after a tough loss, or are simply awful after losing at home to James “Dolly” Madison. Now James Madison is no slouch in the FCS , but they aren't nearly as good as the Appalachian State team that stunned Michigan in 2007 and Va Tech losing at home like this is like Andy Dick marrying Angelina Jolie or Sean Tinsley's fantasy team "Let There be Reign" actually winning a game…just doesn't happen!! Yes your mascot might be a insect, but Georgia Tech doesn't normally play like one, that is exactly what they did though in their big upset loss at Kansas. Tech came into the season ranked in the top 20, but many felt that was a little inflated with some of the losses they had on both sides of the ball, but losing to a team that was beaten by a Missouri Valley team in North Dakota the week before is inexcusable. Kansas was able to do what so many were not last year against Tech, control the tempo of the game and if the Yellow Jackets want to right the ship they better do it quick as they head to Chapel Hill to face an inspired North Carolina squad next week. Have you ever thought about just how amazing the cookie is. There are limitless possibilities as too what kind of cookies can be made and in a way they each make the world a better and tastier place. Even Cookie Monster is much less a monster than a connoisseur of cookies. I was able to sample a tuna chocolate chip mango cookie made by famous cookie designer Rachel "Tuna Muffin" Angelo last week and thought I had died and gone to Saturn. EARLY LOOK AT KEY MATCH UP’S THIS WEEK (CURRENT BETPHOENIX.COM LINE IN BOLD) Rated on a 1-5 Happy Rosh Hashanah Apple’s and Honey scale NEBRASKA AT WASHINGTON (NEBRASKA - 3) Washington QB Jake Locker is viewed by many as the best pro prospect in college football, but is that going to translate into wins for Steve Sarkisian and the Huskies? As they face the Cornhuskers on Saturday they will definitely have a chance to answer that question. Even with their losses on D Nebraska still has the Red Shirt’s buzzing and the offense is improved as well. Seattle is a tough place to play and should give the Huskies big momentum, but this game will be won in the trenches and which QB gets the best protection. 4.2 Apple’s and Honey on Washington plus the points TEXAS AT TEXAS TECH ( TEXAS -2.5) If you like offense then you better tune into this shootout as the 5th ranked Longhorns invade Lubbock to play a fired up Red Raiders team. Tech struggled a little in their opening win against SMU, but then sand blasted New Mexico last week and seem to always have a QB that can throw to the moon and Taylor Potts is no different. The Longhorns are moving into a new era without Colt McCoy, but still have a ton of weapons on offense and a defense that can take over games. Tech will make a go of it in the first half , but the Longhorns and their Dave "Hall and Oates"-esque -steer just have too much oil and depth to lose this one 4.4 Apple’s and Honey on TEXAS NOTRE DAME AT MICHIGAN STATE (MICHIGAN STATE -3.5) The Brian Kelly era at Notre Dame has started with a bit of a whimper in South Bend as the Irish looked sluggish in their opening win against a Donald Duck-like Purdue team then let Denard Robinson have has many total yards as Lady Gaga has dresses(meat included). The Irish now have to go to East Lansing and face a Spartan team that has basically owned them for the past decade. The game will be at night , but will be over before it even gets dark. 4.6 APPLES on the MSU SONG OF THE WEEK- LINKIN PARK “THE CATALYST” LIVE FROM THE MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS 2010 Is it me or does this band just keep getting better and better. They debuted their new single "The Catalyst" from their upcoming album “A Thousand Suns” , which drops on Tuesday September 14th. You heard it hear first this band is about to achieve truly elite status.
