Monday Morning Madness, A Look At The Week That Was And Will Be In College Football
Monday Morning Madness, A Look At The Week That Was And Will Be In College FootballSTATEMENTS MADE-

The Big Ten’s two most exciting teams absolutely pounded their MAC opponents by a combined 138-41. Shoelace might have been hurt early for the Wolverines , but gave Michigan’s other two qb’s a chance to shine and Terrelle “Richard” Pryor showed why he is one of the most dangerous athletes in recent memory in the absolutely woodshed beating of my alma mater EMU. The only good thing for Eastern was that they actually scored some points against a Big Ten team and their jerseys looked crisp in the fall air.

The whole college football world rejoiced in Michigan State coach Mike Dantonio’s intentional fortitude in calling the fake FG heard round the world to beat Notre Dame in OT, and then all collectively lost our breath when we heard of Dantonio’s heart attack shortly following the game. State came out this week and yes they played a well overmatched Northern Colorado and pounded them 45-7. To see a team not miss a beat after their coaches is lost indefinitely is always something special. Thoughts and prayers go out to coach D and a speedy recovery.

Yes their mascot might be a car air freshener in the shape of a tree, but Stanford might be playing the best football in the country. Notre Dame is by no means a great team, but for Stanford to go into South Bend and dominate the way they did and seem like they are only going to continue to improve each and every week…watch out Oregon, you might have a tree chasing you down for the Pac-10 title.

ARGUMENTS LOST-

If you’re a Longhorn today you should not only be ashamed of yourself , but also Cows and Steers everywhere. Losing at home to UCLA is one thing, but losing at home to a Bruins team that was playing just a shade better than my Warner Middle School Vikings team is much worse. Yes it is tough to move on the year after a legend like QB Colt McCoy moves onto the NFL, but they retained much of their stout defense and several of their key offensive starters and thus far this season have looked lost, disinterested, and generally tailpipe-rific

The Cornhuskers came into the 2010 season thinking they had a great shot at finally winning the Big 12. It was a decent thought until they barely looked like they would win against South Dakota State!. Yes this is their first 4-0 start since 2005 and yes they Sean Tinsley’d Washington on the road, but you need to show up for every game and save a couple big plays by the D they could have lost to a winless Missouri Valley team which is much like a jock going to band camp and thinking they run the world.

Have you ever wondered who invented the bagel and what their motivation to do so was?

EARLY LOOK AT KEY MATCH UP’S THIS WEEK

Rated on a 1-10 Autumnal Gobble Monster’s scale

WISCONSIN AT MICHIGAN STATE 3:30PM EST- ( WISCONSIN - 2)

An early key battle in the Big Ten takes place in east Lansing on Saturday as two teams with title aspirations meet. Many felt the Badgers had a chance at a Big Ten title this season, but not many felt the Spartans had enough to make a run and those detractors have been proven wrong this far. Sparty will be without their head coach Mike Dantonio, who is still recovering after having a heart attack following the win over Notre Dame. Look for State to be fired up for this one and to play their best defense of the year. The Badgers will score points, but State will find a way to score more in a classic that will go down to the wire.

6.5 Gobble Monster’s on State plus the points

PENN STATE AT IOWA 8:05 PM EST( IOWA -7)

Iowa felt they had the kind of team that could make a run to a national title, but those hopes were dashed after an early season loss at Arizona. The Hawkeyes still have a great shot at a Big Ten title and if they want to start getting people to believe in that a win over a cranky Penn State team is a must. Penn State might have a coach older than Moses, but have a team that is capable if winning a Big Ten title as well. This game will be close throughout and look for Penn State to have a shot at winning it on the legs of Evan Royster and a defense that can take over games.

7.1 Gobble Monster’s on PENN STATE

FLORIDA AT ALABAMA 8:00PM EST (ALABAMA -9)

Over the past two years this game would be much bigger than it will be this Saturday, mainly cause Tim “God loves me” Tebow isn’t involved, but this still has the makings to be a classic in the series. The Tide have a much more talented and deeper team and the Gators are still finding their footing with new QB John Brantley, but if the Gators play their best this game could go down to the wire. That is likely not gong to happen as Mark Ingram and company will run wild all over a very shoddy Gators D and this game could be well decided by halftime.

WEEKLY POWER POLL

5-OREGON- The Ducks might have the only mascot in college athletics that has its own clothing line “Duck Soupwear“ , but the football team is quietly making a case for first place votes in the AP poll with the way they are rocking their opponents.

4-TCU- The Horned Frogs continue to make a case that they could end up being the first non BCS conference school to play for the national title. QB Andy “Timothy” Dalton is getting better each week and the defense has yet to play their best and when it does this team will be truly scary.

3-OHIO STATE- Yes they scored 73 points, but it was against my alma mater Eastern Michigan , who are just a shade better than my Brewster Academy flag football team.

2-BOISE STATE- The win over the Beavers might have been closer of a shave then the Broncos wanted , but they did beat a Top 25 team and they did it on national television for the first time in program history during the regular season.

1-ALABAMA- The win at Arkansas was closer then expected but a win is a win is a game of Jenga. The Tide are truly the only team in the last decade, save a cheating USC squad, that really has a chance to repeat as National Champs

SONG OF THE WEEK- “BULLETPROOF” By La Roux

The German band’s new single makes you feel like you are wearing a piano tie, vinyl pants, and can’t live without your lava lamp. Their emotionally upbeat 80’s style pop makes you think that Hot Tub Time Machine you bought on Ebay for $22,460 actually works. Perfect song to listen to while gardening, playing hop-scotch, or during a 24 hour continuous “Chutes and Ladders” marathon tournament.
