| AFC Divisional Round Ravens vs Steelers Preview |
BY DAN THE MAN LEACH HOST SPORTS EDGE RADIO SHOW “Armageddon“, “World War III“, “The Day the Earth Stood Still“, “Wheel----OF----Fish” . Those are just a few names that Saturdays Raven’s at Steeler’s AFC divisional playoff game are being called. Ok except for the last one, that’s just a sweet “UHF” reference. Bottom line though is that the third meeting this season between two of the NFL’s hardest hitting teams is going to be a dandy. Both teams proved they could win at each others house as the Ravens were able to beat the Steelers 17-14 in Week 4 in the Steel City. The Steelers returned the favor in Week 13 beating the Ravens 13-10 in Baltimore. The third meeting obviously has a lot more on the line as the winner will be just one win away from a trip to Super Bowl XLV. Both these teams know each other all too well and it would be an understatement to say that these teams do not like each other very much. That being said they do have a lot of respect for each other and come Saturday every play will come with its own veracity, courtesy of the two defenses. The Ravens offensive improvement from last season could be a key in beating Pitt on the road as QB Joe Flacco has grown tremendously from last year and has added weapons on offense including the always dangerous Anquan Boldin at WR. Flacco also has started his career with some of the best numbers for a playoff QB on the road in NFL history. RB Ray Rice will be a key as well and his ability to not only run the ball with authority, but also catch passes in the flat for big yardage, could prove to be a huge advantage for Baltimore. Defense though, as always when these two teams meet, is the key and the Ravens D after some missteps towards the end of the season, is back in vintage form. Players like LB's Ray Lewis and Terell Suggs and S Ed Reed, simnply live for these moments. The Steelers have a tremendous defense of their own and with a healthy S Troy Polamalu, who can literally change the game by himself, and one of the best LB’s in the game James Harrison, it is a given that points are going to be at a premium. That is where the Steelers might have a small advantage as for all the improvement on the Baltimore side of the ball on offense, Pittsburgh has improved their offense from a season ago as well. With a QB like Big Ben and all his weapons like WR Hines Ward , RB Rashard Mendenhall, and TE Heath Miller, the Steelers feel like they can control the tempo of this game and outscore the Ravens no matter how well the defense plays. PREDICTION(BASED ON A 1-10 WALT DISNEY FROZEN HEAD POPSICLE SCALE) 7.4 POPSICLES ON THE STEELERS- When these two teams meet you know it is going to come down to a couple plays and most likely a couple of points, and this game should be no different. Both teams are going to have great days on defense and the key to this game will be which team’s offense can break that big play or plays to change the tide of the game. That team is going Pittsburgh as there are just too many weapons on offense and RB Rashard Mendenhall is going to be a huge factor . If the defense comes to play like they have in the other two meetings, coupled with the hostile home crowd, look for Pittsburgh to get one step closer to football’s biggest prize.
