PITCHING MATCH UP- YANKEES- BARTOLO COLON (6-3 2.88 ERA) RAYS-JEFF NIEMANN (3-4 5.05 ERA)

Two contenders for the AL East crown get it going in the Bronx in the start of a four game set as the main stage show will be Derek Jeter’s pursuit of 3,000 hits. Jeter back off the DL is heating up and truly wants to reach one of sports great milestones at home. Lost in Jeter’s pursuit is the fact that Tampa is only 4.5 games out of the Al East lead and could get as close as a half game out with a four game sweep in NY.

The pitching match ups set up well for the Rays as they will send three eight game winners in a row to the hill in the series last three games and game one starter Jeff Niemann has been pitching better as of late . The Yanks send Bartolo Colon , just off the DL himself , and has won his last two starts against the Nets and Indians.

The series before the All-Star break normally sees teams putting forth their best effort and this should be no different as both of these division mates want to go in the break on a positive note and the Rays would love to cut the Yanks division lead and create some momentum for the second half.

7.4 HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS ON THE RAYS- Colon has been pitching great since he has been off the DL, but look for Niemann and the Rays to get the upper hand in game one. The Rays lineup sets up nicely against the righty Colon and T.B feels like they are on the cusp of a big second half run and is the much better value bet in game one. The Rays will get it going with a road win in the Bronx to start the series.
