The 82nd annual Midsummer Classic takes place tonight from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona and if there was one headline coming into the game it would be that prior All-Star experience was defiantly not a requirement for this years game. A stunning 34 of the 68 players will be participating in their first All-Star Game. That should make for a lot of excitement in a game which sometimes can be lacking in the dramatic. The only disappointment this year are the large amount of injuries(15) and the fact that the one of MLB’s top pitchers Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers, who was supposed to start, will be unable to participate due to pitching this past Sunday before the break. CC Sabbathia and Feliz Hernandez also made the team , but won't be in Arizona.

The injuries have blown the total All-Star game roster size to a record 83 players, giving many that would likely not have a chance in previous years to play in baseball’s showcase game. The All-Star game often seems to come down to pitching even with the games best hitters dotting each leagues roster. And both staffs feature some of the better first half performers in recent years. The NL sends the Braves Jair " Lotion Hands" Jurrens, Philly’s Cliff Lee, and Pittsburgh's Kevin Correia to the hill among others. The AL’s pitching roster contains such first half stalwarts as Seattle rookie Michael Pineda and Boston’s Josh Beckett, as well as Tigers Closer Jose "Lights Out" Valverde.

PREDICTION(BASED ON A 1-10 HARRY POTTER COLLECTIBLE RUBBER ALL-STAR WAND SCALE )

7.8 ALL-STAR WANDS ON THE AL- Look for this game to be low scoring at least thru the first six innings and for the pitchers to be the story line. Runs will be at a premium and that favors the AL who has the stronger pitching staff, both starter’s and bullpen. I just have a feeling it is going to be a late inning hit from an unlikely source that will win this game and it will come from someone like Matt Joyce from the Rays or Matt Wieters from the Orioles.
