US Open 2010
US Open 2010Roger Federer looks like he is up to his old tricks in the US Open. Federer took on Robin Soderling and defeated him in seemingly easy fashion, winning 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. Federer has dominated Soderling and has won 13 of the last 14 matches, but Soderling recently defeated Federer this year. Both players had to deal with the wind in this match and Federer seemed to handle it much better than Soderling. After the match, Federer was full of complements for his opponent.

“I just feel happy that I played a good match under tough circumstances against a player who’s really hard to beat these days, especially on the hard courts,” Federer said. “It really favors his game, and he’s had a wonderful run the last couple of years.”

With the win Federer will now go on to face Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

Federer moves one step closer to a possible matchup in the finals with Rafael Nadal. Nadal has won 22 of 25 sets and has not lost serve once so far in the championships. If Nadal could win the championship he would win three majors in a row in a calendar year and that has not happened since 1969. That would make the first meeting between the two in the finals in the US Open a major event in the world of Tennis. This would complete the grandslam and make Nadal the best tennis player in the world with little argument from any tennis fans if he were to win the Open.

In order to accomplish that amazing feat, Nadal would first have to defeat Fernando Verdasco in the first all-Spanish quarterfinal in U.S. Open history. As imagined, Nadal is a huge favorite over Verdasco and is listed as a -1250 chalk for the upcoming quarterfinals matchup. The line is listed at Bet Phoenix and on the flip side they have Verdasco listed as a very live +825 underdog.
