2011 Australian Open: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal try to stay on top of the Tennis WorldRoger Federer and Rafael Nadal will start the tennis season off with the 2011 Australian Open as players gear up to start another great tournament. This tournament is full of the world’s best superstars vying for one of the most prestigious titles in Tennis headlined be Federer and Nadal.


Roger Federer started well a year ago by defeating Andy Murray but then Roger weakened while Rafael Nadal reclaimed the number one ranking and Grand Slams on his way to being the best in the world. Roger Federer is back but he is not getting any younger and will have a tough draw in this tournament.

Rafael Nadal is ready to stay dominant in the world of tennis but is battling a bout of the flu. However a recent bout with the flu has put his preparation for a title run in jeopardy. His health will be important as he tries to get his fourth consecutive Slam. If not 100 percent he could be ousted due to the heat on the court.

The path to the Open title is not easy for Nadal. Nadal opens the main draw gainst Marcos Daniel of Brazil who is ranked 93rd in the world and should provide little challenge.That should result in an easy victory, but it only gets harder.

If Nadal can beat Daniel, he would then get Feliciano Lopez in round three and Marin Cilic or John Isner in the fourth round. David Ferrer or David Nalbandian could wait in the quarter-finals. These players have given him a hard time in the past so he best be on top of his game.

If he can reach the semi-finals Nadal has players like Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Robin Soderling among his potential opponents. All of those foes are in the second quarter of the draw which will provide a difficult challenge to any player on the tour.

Nadal and Federer may be the biggest names, but other players can win this event. Don’t forget about other big names in the bottom half of the draw like Tomas Berdych, Gael Monfils and Nikolay Davydenko. The door is wide open for anyone to win this tournament.

Tennis fans would love to see a Nadal and Federer finals in the Australian Open, but this could be the year when a newcomer takes over the top spot.
