2011 Wimbledon Preview: Mardy Fish vs. Tomas Berdych
2011 Wimbledon Preview: Mardy Fish vs. Tomas BerdychThe main attraction for the United States will be the Mardy Fish vs. Tomas Berdych match as Fish is the last remaining American still alive at Wimbledon. Fish is not extremely proud of the fact that he is the last one left in the tournament.

He did it at the French Open last month, and now he’s done it again at Wimbledon, where Fish is into the fourth round for the first time in his career.

“It’s lonely. It doesn’t feel great. And that’s not the goal,” the 10th-seeded Fish said Saturday, when his third-round opponent stopped playing because he was in pain. “You know, I want the guys here. So that’s a bit of a bummer, I guess.”

Fish was leading 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-2, 1-1 when 58th-ranked Robin Haase of the Netherlands retired. The only other American man still around, Alex Bogomolov Jr., lost all seven points he played Saturday against 2010 runner-up Tomas Berdych in a match suspended because of rain a day before.

The sixth-seeded Berdych advanced 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 and now faces Fish.

2010 Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych continued to enjoy fine form at The All England Club this year. The Czech earned comprehensive straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alex Bogomolov Jr. 3 in the third round, on Saturday. Now, he will take on 10th-seeded Mardy Fish for the first time. Fish was leading Robin Haase 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-1 before the Dutchman decided to retire from their third-round encounter.

After his mercurial performance at Wimbledon last year, Berdych has not been able to maintain consistency. The Czech has a 29-13 win-loss record this year and he has not won a title in 2011. His opponent Fish also has a good 18-11 win-loss record this year and the American is also chasing his first title in the new season.

Berdych reached semis at Chennai earlier this year, where he lost to eventual champion Wawrinka. The Czech did well for his country in Davis Cup clash with Kazakhstan, as he defeated Mikhail Kukushkin in second rubber.

Fish who won two ATP titles last year at Atlanta and Newport has not made it to the final of any tournament this year. He lost in the second-round at Aussie Open and made a third round exit at Roland Garros.

Both contenders have been enjoying some form at the Wimbledon and they also look at par with each other. Get ready for another interesting battle.
