Oddly,Federer has never passed the quarter-finals at Paris-Bercy in seven appearences, and it’s the third time he lost in his opening match.

“I can definitly play much better, but I can also play much worse.”said Federer “It wasn’t a bad performance.I think Julien,he went out,and got the victory.I definitly had chances,I missed them.Seems to happen to me a bit now, looking back at the Basel final and the US Open final....”

World No2 Rafael Nadal survived a 3 hours 15 minutes battle against fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in three gueling sets 3-6,7-6,7-5 and Scot Andy Murray(No 4) also had to go the distance 6-4,5-7,6-4 with American James Blake.
