| Barclays Atp World Tour Finals - London |
Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga becomes first alternate. This year eight-men line-up features world No1 Roger Federer, No2 Rafael Nadal, No3 Novak Djokovic, No4 Andy Murray, No5 Juan Martin del Potro,No7 Nikolay Davidenko, No8 Fernando Verdasco and No9 Robin Soderling. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will battle for the title in London, and also for the world No1 spot to end the 2009 season.Nadal is 935 points behind Federer, but with 1500 possible points to earn as undefeated champion in the ATP Finals, the Spaniard has the opportunity to regain the No 1 spot that Federer reclaimed after winning Roland Garros and Winbledon earlier this summer. No1 and No2, Federer and Nadal will no meet in the round-robin stages,as they are the highest seeds in their respective groups. However,if they meet in the semi-finals,the outcome of that match could go a long way to determine who will end the year as the world No1. The round-robin groups A and B are like this:
Play will start Sunday Nov.22 in the O2 facilities in London featuring two Group A matches .Andy Murray vs Juan Martin del Potro will open the singles tournament, followed in the evening by Roger Federer vs Fernando Verdasco. Murray leads the series 4-1,but del Potro has been improving constantly in the last 18 months. The Argentine, against all odds won his first Gran Slam before the Scot, defeating Federer in the final of the US Open.Del Potro had to retire because of abdominal pains last week in Paris, and Murray lost to Radek Stepanek in the quarter-finals. It should be a close one,I think del Potro will edge Murray in the opening match. Federer is 3-0 against Verdasco, the Swiss will be looking to redeem himself from his opening-round loss to Julien Benneteau last week.He needs a win over the weakest player of his group to face the next tough two matches with confidence. Federer is everybody’s favorite to come out on top in the evening match. On Monday Rafael Nadal will open the hostilities in the afternoon against Robin Soderling, who was the first player ever to beat the Spaniard in Roland Garros. Novak Djokovic will face Nikolay Davidenko in the evening session. Nadal will want to finish the year strongly and has a lot to play for. However the hard-hitting Swede has proved he can beat him,and will look for a great debut at the ATP Finals. It’s almost a must-win for Nadal if he wants to keep alive his chances at the world No1 spot. The Spaniard might not be at his best, but he’s a great fighter and will win that match. Djokovic is playing fantastic tennis and has defeated Federer in his own backyard in the Basel final, before destroying Nadal last week in the BNP Masters in Paris. The Serb should’t have much trouble against Nikolay Davidenko. Eight of the best players in the world will battle from Sunday on in London for the prestigious Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.Check out the pairings and the odds at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook and put a wager on your favorites.
