Williams sisters defend Doubles title in Melbourne Venus and Serena Williams successfully defended their 2009 Australian Open Women’s Doubles title with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on Friday over No 1 seeds Cara Black and Liezel Huber.

Though Black/Huber battled hard throughout the whole match, the aggression of the American sisters proved to be too much for the Zimbabwean/American duo.

After the first three games went to the serving team, Serena was forced to serve for almost 15 minutes in a remarkable fourth, in which, to the delight of the crowd, all four players displayed their fantastic skills.

Serena, who was ultimately broken to give Black/Huber a 3-1 lead, didn’t like it a bit and single-handedly broke back in the next game, raising her on-court aggression to another level.

Huber tried to avoid a dominant Serena, but as Venus realized that Black wasn’t going to be intimidated by Serena she subsequently tried to avoid her.

The cat-and-mouse battle continued throughout the latter stages of the set, but the Williams broke at 5-4 to take the first set.

Venus was the one coming out with guns blazing in the second set, as the sisters kept going with their aggressive approach and got an early break. After that the result of the match was never in doubt as Venus totally dominated at the net.

The Williams took the set at 6-3, and their 11th Grand Slam Doubles title.

“I was really focused and my serve was really working today and I got away with a few second serves,” said Venus.

The sisters laughed after the match back at their seats as Venus didn’t realized they had already won the title.

“I actually didn’t know the score; I thought it was 5-2. I really don’t know how I lost track-I was a little confused-I guess it was just focus,” she said.

Serena will have a shot at the Womens’ Singles Saturday against Belgium’s Justine Henin, again defending her 2009 title.

Top-seeded American brothers Bob and Mike Bryan will also defend their title Saturday evening in Melbourne, renewing their rivalry with No 2 seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.
