| Roddick, Verdasco lead the field at ATP World Tour 500 in Memphis |
World No 7 Andy Roddick is the No 1 seed at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, played at the Racquet Club of Memphis, the only private club in the world to host a professional men’s and women’s combined indoor event. Roddick , also top seed last week in San Jose, lost to world No 11 and second seed Fernando Verdasco in a thrilling three-setter. The American will have the opportunity to defend the title he captured last year (def. Stepanek) and take revenge on the Spaniard, should both men reach the final. Roddick also won the title in 2002, while Verdasco is making his debut in Menphis. Last year’s runner-up world No 14 Radek Stepanek (CZE), and No 18 Tommy Haas are 3 and 4 seed. Tomas Berdych, John Isner, Philipp Kohlschreiber and Sam Querrey complete the eight seeded players draw. COPA TELMEX Buenos Aires, Argentina World No 18 David Ferrer leads the Spanish Armada on the clay courts of the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club known as the “Cathedral of Argentinean tennis”. Juan Carlos Ferrero, who just won the Brasil Open Sunday, and Nicolas Almagro complete the trio of top Spanish players who will fight for the title. Tandil native Juan Monaco will try to take the trophy for Argentina, he reached the Copa Telmex final twice before, claiming the title in 2007 and finishing runner-up to Tommy Robredo last year. We can expect some long, hard-fought battles between those great clay-court specialists. OPEN 13 Marseille, France World No 9 and second-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will look to defend the indoor hard-court title he captured last year, losing just one set the whole week. The No 2 seed Frenchman, though, will have to deal with a strong field including top-seed Sweden’s world No 8 Robin Soderling who took the title in Rotterdam last Sunday. Three seed Gael Monfils, 5 Gilles Simon, and 8 Julien Benneteau are the other top French players who will have a go at the title in the city of Marseille, on the French Mediterranean coast. Simon, who is playing his first tournament of the season, lifted the trophy in 2007 (def. Baghdatis). Spain’s Tommy Robredo at 4, Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny 6 and Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis 7 are the other seeded players of a very strong field. The tennis season is going full throttle all around the world, check out the action at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook and join the fun, putting a wager on your favorite players.
