ATP TOUR Querrey edges Isner to clinch Memphis title Sam Querrey defeated close friend fellow American John Isner 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 to capture his third ATP World Tour title on Sunday at the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis.

Querrey collected $261,500 and 500 “010 ATP Ranking points as the singles champion af the ATP World Toue 500 indoor hard-court tournament, while runner-up Isner received $121,600 and 300 points.

Afterwards, Querrey and Isner teamed up to take the doubles title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr.

It can’t get any better than that.

“It feels great,” said the 22-year-old Querrey. “It’s tough playing your good buddy like that. If anyone else won a tournament I’d want to be him. You’re not going to get the same reaction out of me for winning this than if I was playing someone else.”

In two weeks, Querrey and Isner will travel to Serbia for a first-round Davis Cup tie. But first, the pair will head to Abierto Mexicano Telcel to compete for the ATP World Tour 500 clay-court title in Acapulco.

COPA TELMEX Buenos Aires , Argentina

Second-seeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero won his second title on clay in as many weeks, after rallying to defeat top-seeded countryman David Ferrer 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday at the Copa Telmex in Buenos Aires.

The former World No 1, the second two-time winner on the ATP Tour this season after Croatian Marin Cilic, received $81,500 and 250 ATP Rankings points. That was Ferrero’s 14th tour-level title from 31 finals, and 11th on clay.

“I feel unbelievable after winning two weeks in a row,” said Ferrero. “It’s a great feeling. I think the key to my current success is the physical work I have done. I have been working very hard and I know I can be on the court forever. That helps my game a lot because I get to the ball much earlier and can be more aggressive.” and “Today’s match was as expected. It was very tough, intense. We have known each other forever as we are best friends…I think the fact that the court was a little slower and the wind played to my benefit today…”

Ferrer was looking to win his first title since 2008,and entered the final with a 5-1 lead in the head-to-head series against Ferrero, including wins in their previous two clay matches. He has now lost his past three title matches, including runner-up finishes last season in Dubai (l. to Djokovic) and Barcelona (l. to Nadal). The Spaniard, however, just surpassed $7 million in career prize money earnings with the $52,500 he got for second place at the Copa Telmex.

OPEN 13 Marseille, France

Michael Llodra goes one better –he was runner-up to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga last year- as he defeated Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-4 in an all-French final at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Marseille.

As champion, the 29-year-old Llodra received 92,400 Euros and 25o ATP Rankings points. That was his fourth career ATP Tour title, the first one since he beat Robin Soderling in Rotterdam in 2008.

“At the beginning of the week I knew that I could go down as far as 120 in the rankings if I lost in the first round,” said World No 79 Llodra. “It’s unbelievable to finally win a final in France after losing here and in Lyon last year. I enjoyed this week a lot and it was great to have my kids here today watching the final.”

And Llodra had more cause for celebration as he became the first player this year to sweep singles and doubles titles in an ATP World Tour tournament. He and Benneteau defeated top-seeds Julian Knowles and Robert Lindstedt 6-4, 6-3 in the doubles final.

Benneteau, ranked 40 places higher in the ATP Rankings, suffered his fourth defeat in an ATP World Tour final. Despite recording back-to-back upset wins over No 3 seed Gael Monfils and defending champion Tsonga in the quarter and semi-finals, he surrendered to Llodra in the final and is still looking for his first ATP World Tour Title.

This week six of the top 10 players fight for the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships title in Dubai, and in another very strong field led by Fernando Verdasco and Fernando Gonzalez, the clay-court specialists will battle in Acapulco, Mexico, while Tommy Haas and Ivo Karlovic are the top-seeded players also on the clay at Delray Beach, USA.
