ATP TOUR Ferrero and Almagro trying for 13-match winning streaks On the clay of Acapulco, at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, two winning streaks collide as No. 4 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero faces No. 6 seed Nicolas Almagro in an all-Spaniard quarter-final clash.

Former World No. 1 Ferrero has won his last 12 matches on clay on the ATP World Tour - capturing back-to-back titles in Costa do Sauipe and Buenos Aires – for the second-longest winning streak of his career (he won 16 in a row in 2002).

Almagro also has a 12-match winning streak, but it has come right here in Acapulco. He won the title in 2008 and 2009, and with this week’s two wins made it an even dozen.

Although Almagro is 2-1 overall against his fellow countryman, Ferrero enters this QF with great momentum and should even up the head-to-head series for a spot in the semis.

In the only other match earlier on the main court, No. 1 seed Fernando Verdasco will have to overcome a 2-5 lifetime record against 7-seed Argentine Juan Monaco if he wants to reach the SFs. However, the Spaniard has won their last meeting on clay last year in Madrid and should be able to battle his way to the next round.

No. 2 seed Chilean Fernando Gonzalez and No. 3 seed Spaniard David Ferrer should go through easily to the semis as they both face unseeded players in their QF matches. Always fun to watch hard-hitter Gonzalez is up against qualifier Eduardo Schwank (ARG), and last week’s runner-up in Buenos Aires Ferrer (l. to Ferrero) faces Pablo Cuevas (URU) in first-time meetings.

There is a good chance that the top four-seeded players make it to the semi-finals at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel, setting up great matches between clay-court specialists Ferrero and Ferrer against Verdasco and Gonzalez who are more comfortable on hard courts.
