| Barcelona Open Quarter-Finals Preview |
Nadal, fresh off his sixth straight title in Monaco, decided to retire from the event in Barcelona he won the past five years. The Mallorcan declared that his body needed rest after the impressive performance that earned him a record six consecutive victories at an ATP World Tour tournament. His compatriots must have felt sorry for him and wished him well, but they saw a chance to seize the prestigious clay-court Barcelona event that the “King of Clay” Rafa has dominated in its last five editions. That changed a little bit the odds, BetPhoenix, however the circumstances, always gives you the best in all Sports- Betting. The tennis European clay-court swing is running full blast, check out the odds and our special Bonus Packages at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook and join the excitement of Tennis Betting. No. 8 seed Ferrer is 3-1 against Bellucci, beating him 6-4, 6-1 in their last meeting in Acapulco on clay. Ferrer went on to win the title in Mexico and owns a 19-2 clay-court record this season. He lost to Nadal in the Monte-Carlo Open semi-final, and it was Nadal who stopped the Valencian resident the last three years at the Barcelona’s semi-finals. Big adavantage to Ferrer who plays on home soil. No. 5 seed Fernando Verdasco is next on Pista Central for his first meeting against Ernests Gulbis of Latvia. Verdasco reached his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final last week in Monaco, returning to the Top 10 this week. He overcame a 6-3, 2-0 deficit to beat 11-seed Jurgen Meltzer in his third round match. The Spaniard will be eager to erase the humiliating 6-0, 6-1 loss to Nadal last Sunday. Verdasco should go on to the semis. No. 2 Robin Soderling is the highest seed in the tournament, he faces unseeded Eduardo Schwank of Argentina. The Swede defeated the Argentine in straight sets on hard courts earlier this year, but Schwank is improving rapidly and Clay is a natural surface for the South American. Soderling, though, is favorite to earn a spot in the last four. No. 3 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga from France is up against young Thiemo de Bakker who upset 7-seed Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round. That’s a big win for the Dutchman, a former World No. 1 in the juniors. Although Tsonga may have breathed a sigh of relief when de Bakker took Ferrero down (Ferrero beat Tsonga last week in Monte-Carlo), this could be the most exciting matchup of the day. The Dutchman notched his second career victory over Top 20s by beating Ferrero and is looking for his first Top 10 win. Tsonga won his only previous meeting against de Bakker, a tough four-setter on clay, and should be able to beat him at the Barcelona Open this Friday. Quite a few new faces in the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open this year, and it’s not easy to pick the tournament champion. When No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal withdrew on Monday from the Barcelona Open ATP World Tour 500 tournament, the top of the draw opened, and Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci threaded his way to the quarter-finals where he’s facing Spain’s David Ferrer.
