| Nadal enters 2010 French Open undefeated on clay |
The Spaniard will attempt to become the first player to win a “Clay Slam” at Roland Garros, capturing the four biggest clay court titles during the same season. There is even more at stakes, as Nadal would regain the No. 1 spot if he wins his fifth title in Paris and World No. 1 Roger Federer, the defending champion, doesn’t reach the semi-finals. What a time to get started in Tennis betting! BetPhoenix offers you the best tennis odds and the best bonus Packages to give you the best value for your money. Nadal had never lost a match in Roland Garros on his way to four consecutive titles (2005-08), but he fell to Sweden’s Robin Soderling in the fourth round last year. This year, he seems ready to claim his fifth title, having lost only two sets of the 32 he played on the red dirt of Monte-Carlo, Rome and Madrid. He took revenge on Federer at the Mutua Madrileña, beating him in straight sets. The Swiss had beaten him in two sets in the final of the 2009 Madrid Open. World No. 3 Novak Djokovic has for the first time a chance to take over the top spot: he has to win the title and Federer must lose before the quarter-finals. In the first round action, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga delighted the French crowd with a five-set victory over German Daniel Brands in a thrilling three hours and 43 minutes. The Frenchman had his best result at Roland Garros last year, when he reached the fourth round. Another Frenchman, Julien Benneteau, eliminated the upcoming Latvian Ernest Gulbis. Benneteau was leading 6-4, 6-2, 1-0 when Gulbis was forced to retire with a right-thigh injury. That wasn’t in my plans, as I expected Gulbis to create some havoc in this year’s French Open. Last year’s runner-up Robin Soderling blasted through his first round match in just 94 minutes, while 21-year-old Marin Cilic had to work a little harder to defeat Brazilian Ricardo Mello in four sets. No. 4 seed Andy Murray has a difficult opening match against Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who just won his sixth ATP World Tour title by defeating World No. 9 Fernando Verdasco at the Open de Nice in a terrific final that lasted two hours and 38 minutes. In the Ladies’ Singles, No. 2 seed Venus Williams beat Patty Schnyder 6-3, 6-3, though Venus’ outfit impressed me more than her performance. The American displayed a sexy French “frivolité” that fitted the occasion in Paris. You have two great weeks of Tennis betting ahead of you. Will Federer defend successfully his title? Will Nadal complete the “Clay Slam”? Check out the odds and pairings at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook, and join the excitement of Tennis betting today!
