World No. 40 Ernest Gulbis upset World No. 1 and top seed Roger Federer 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the second round of the Internazionali BNL D’Italia Tuesday afternoon in Rome. The 21-year-old Latvian needed seven match points over three games to knock out the Swiss superstar at the end of a dramatic third set.

It’s the 11th time since 1990 that at least three players from the same country have reached the SFs at an ATP World Tour tournament. The last time it happened was in 2003 at Hamburg, when four Argentines reached the last four.
