Thanksgiving Dinner and Side Dish Recap

Tennessee (11-1) at Detroit (0-12)

If you wagered on the Lions against Tennessee, you probably lost your appetite for turkey while watching Detroit's sickening play. The American NFL betting community that watched Detroit fall to 0-12 (4-8 ATS) probably now realizes the likely hood of the Lions posting a history making 0-16 season. The Lions finish at Indianapolis, at home (where they haven't covered all season at 0-6 ATS) versus New Orleans and at Green Bay. Detroit's 47-10 loss to the Titans was the worst traditional holiday outing ever, losing by a franchise-worst 37 points and giving up a franchise-record 47 points in the most lopsided beating the Lions endured in its 74-year Thanksgiving Day game history. Meanwhile, the Titans improved to NFL-bests 11-1 SU and 10-2 ATS. The victory extended the Titans’ record to eight straight regular-season wins on the road. Incredibly, Tennessee has covered the spread in all eight to redefine the term ''money-making road warriors'' with a stout 22 game 17-5 ATS away record. They have full control of the AFC in the chase for home-field advantage. They hold a three-game lead over the Jets, the only team to beat them this season, with four games left. Also, the Titans clinched the AFC South title for the first time since 2002.

Seattle (2-10) at Dallas (8-4)

The Dallas Cowboys posted a Thanksgiving game rout in a 34-9 win against Seattle, another hapless club joining Thursday's NFL wagering feast. It was Dallas' third consecutive win SU and ATS, moving them back near the top of the NFC wild-card race at 8-4 (6-6 ATS). The Cowboys' cashing victory helped recover funds lost by investors in ''Big DO'S, as they improved their 17 game overall ATS mark to 6-11. Meanwhile, the Seahawks lost their fifth straight game, going 1-3-1 ATS during the span, and their ten losses matches the most in coach Mike Holmgren's 17 years in the NFL.

Arizona (7-5) at Philadelphia (6-5)

Hosting Philadelphia Eagles against the Arizona Cardinals was the nightcap, resulting in an Eagles' 48-20 victory over the Cardinals in a virtual must win game for Philadelphia to keep their slim playoff hopes alive at 6-5 (7-5 ATS).Just four days after being benched during a game for the first time in his career, Donovan McNabb responded by completing 27-of-39 for 260 yards and four touchdown passes. The cover ended a Philly three-game ATS skid. Brian Westbrook tied a team record with four scores and the Eagles' win, rushing for two touchdowns and two receiving. The win called for a season ATS and SU sweeping of the NFC West, a feat last accomplished in 2002. Kurt Warner finished 21-of-39 with 235 yards passing, three TDs and three interceptions. Despite the loss, and third non-cover in its last four, the Cardinals are still in control of a weak NFC West at 7-5 (7-5 ATS) and could clinch their first division title in 33 years with a home win over the Rams and a San Francisco loss against the visiting Jets on Sunday.

Sunday's Left Over's Review
Sunday's slate featured great sports betting action and the playoff picture became somewhat clearer. Let's look back at what unfolded that'll provide insight to upcoming Week 14 and the final month of the regular season. Starting with games including teams headed into contests in or near must win situations.

Miami (7-5) at St. Louis (2-10)

Miami won consecutive road games for the first time since early in 2006 with a much needed 16-12 win over St. Louis. The Dolphins' win wasn't a cover but keeps them in the thick of a competitive race in AFC East, where they are now tied for second with New England with both teams one game behind the front running Jets. Miami are winners of five of six, however, they have covered in only two of the six and they're 5-7 ATS. But, nevertheless, it was a big win for the Fins. The Rams’ 6-0 lead after the first quarter was their first lead in four games to end a terrible stretch in which they were outscored 99-6 in the first half. They also managed to cover, placing them among the trio tied as the NFL's second-worst team ATS at 4-8, but it was their sixth consecutive SU loss.

Indianapolis (8-4) at Cleveland (4-8)

The Colts entered Cleveland Browns Stadium as winners of its last four, but having next to no shot at catching first-place Tennessee in the division they needed a victory to bolster its AFC wild-card chances, which they got 10-6 over the Browns. The win puts them in a tie with Baltimore for the wild-card spot, with the head-to-head tiebreaker in hand after beating the Ravens in Week 6. As winners of five consecutive games SU, the Colts are only 2-3 ATS because the five-game winning streak has come by a total of 20 points. Overall, Indy is 5-6-1 ATS on the season. Peyton Manning finished 15-for-21 for 125 yards, a season low and only the 10th time in 172 career starts that he was under 150 yards. Indy's win came via defensive end Robert Mathis picked up quarterback Derek Anderson’s fumble and returned it 37 yards for the game's only a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was the first time the Colt's potent offense failed to score a TD for the first time since Sept. 7, 2003. Despite Cleveland's season long woes, they've managed to produce a 6-5-1 ATS mark on the year. And, they improved to a strong 15-3 ATS record versus teams at .500 or better.

Baltimore (8-4) at Cincinnati (1-10-1)

Unlike the Colts, Baltimore still has a shot at winning its division being just one game behind Pittsburgh, though, the Ravens, too, may need a wild-card entrance into postseason with the way the Steelers are playing. Baltimore earned a 34-10 road victory over Cincinnati to keep pace in the AFC wild-card race and within reach of Pittsburgh in the AFC North. The Ravens have won six of its past seven games SU and ATS behind a 'D' anchored by Ray Lewis and an offense led by rookie quarterback Joe Flacco, who's improving each time out. Flacco finished 19-of-29 for 280 yards and two touchdowns versus the Bengals, and during the Ravens' stellar seven game money-making span, the rookie has thrown eleven touchdowns and just two picks. Baltimores’ defense hasn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in 31 games, the longest current streak in the NFL, which has played a major role to their league's third-best 9-3 ATS record. Meanwhile, the Bengals fall to 4-8 ATS overall (NFL's second-worst tied with St. Louis and Detroit) on the year and 1-8 ATS in their last nine games versus AFC opponents.

Carolina at (9-3) Green Bay (5-7)

Carolina completed an improbable come-from-behind 35-31 victory to remain tied atop the NFC South with Tampa Bay. Mark Jones, Steve Smith and Dingell Williams were key to the stunning rally late in the game. The Panthers improved 2-4 ATS in their last 6 NFC matchups and to 6-5-1 ATS overall. In typical wintry conditions at Green Bay, that Packers seemingly rolled over in an important game that proved costly, dropping them two games back of NFC North-leading Minnesota, who beat Chicago 34-14 on Sunday evening. The Packers four losses this season by four points or fewer leading to a 7-5 ARTS record. Tampa Bay remains in a first-place division tie with Carolina thanks to a 23-20 home win over New Orleans, that probably marches the Saints out of postseason contention, as they stagger to a last-place NFC South 6 record and a bayou bankroll busting 3-8 ATS mark in its last eleven division meetings.

New York Giants (11-1) at Washington (7-5)

Following Dallas' win on Thursday, Washington was much in need of a home victory against the Giants to keep pace with the Cowboys for second-place in the NFC East and the wild-card race. But the defending champions would have no part of it, posting a 23-7 win over the Redskins. The Giants' cover win puts them in a first-place tie with the Titans as NFL's richest team at 10-2 ATS. Eli Manning finished 21-for-34 for 305 yards with one touchdown and one interception en rout to moving the G-Men to 22-6 ATS on the road and 24-6 ATS in their last 30 games overall. Meanwhile, the Redskins have failed to cover in its last five home games and falls to 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven overall.

Atlanta (8-4) at San Diego (4-8)

The Falcons flew into the left coast looking for a win which they earned 22-16 over the Chargers to remain in second-place in the NFC South and very much alive in the playoff picture, while delivering a postseason knockout punch to San Diego in the process. Atlanta also improved to 6-2 ATS in their last eight games thanks to continued good play from rookie quarterback Matt Ryan, who completed 17-of-23 passes for 207 yards and two touchdown passes. The Falcons are in a tie with the Saints as the third most profitable club in the NFL at 8-4 ATS. The Chargers' star-studded lineup that reached the AFC championship game just one year ago were among the sports wagering favorites to win it all this season, however, San Diego can finish no better than .500 and has covered the number only once in its last six games to be 4-7-1 ATS on the year. The Chargers are three games behind Denver in the lowly AFC West that's a combined 16-32 SU. The Broncos pushed its division three-game lead by earning their third straight road win, 34-17 over the Jets.

Pittsburgh (9-3) at New England (7-5)

In one of the most anticipated matchups of the week in an important game for both clubs, Pittsburgh’s top-ranked defense led the black and gold to a 33-10 road win
against New England. The Steelers held the Pats to only 267 yards to keep New England a game behind the Jets in the AFC East. They’re tied with Miami in the division and trail Indy and Baltimore by one game in the wild-card race. The Pittsburgh win keeps them atop the AFC North by one game over the Ravens, and the cover moved the Steelers and Pats to 6 ATS records on the season. Pittsburgh hasn’t allowed more than 290 yards in any game this season and it was only their second win over New England in eight games.
