Men’s Singles

As the players on the bottom half of the draw were in action today Federer looked very impressive dismissing Garcia-Lopez 6-2,6-2,6-4.Roger said “ I am confident and playing great at the moment, but it will get tougher and I look forward for the next match.”His next opponent is #27 Philipp Kohlschreiber who went through his 2nd round in a very tough 5setter (8-6 in the 5th) against the tcheck Ivo Minar

#4 Novak Djokovic played better today to win 7-5,6-1,6-4 against the german Simon Greul. He wiil face the 28th seeded american Mardy Fish in the 3rd round and tennis commentator Jimmy Arias took a stand predicting Fish victory as a big upset in that match.Maybe an occasion to bet the dog at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook.

#7 Fernando Verdasco won in 4 sets to meet #32 fellow spaniard Albert Montañes in the 3rd.

#9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga got a walkover as Simone Bolelli retired,he will have to deal with the huge serve of the croatian #22 Ivo Karlovic.A potential very spectacular match to see.

# 15 Tommy Robredo had one of his typical matches loosing the first 2 sets to come back and win in five against the austrian Stefan Koubek. Dudi Sela from Israel is his rival in the next round.

# 24 Tommy Haas passed as the frenchman Llodra retired in the middle of the first set.

#13 Robin Soderling won in 4 sets after losing the first one to the spaniard Marcel Granollers who played great.Roland Garros’ finalist will face Nicolas Almagro, also from Spain,in the 3rd round.Almagro won in 5 sets(second 5 setter in as many matches) against karol Beck.

Ladie’s Singles

Easy wins for #2 Serena Williams (6-2,6-1) vs Groth,# 7Vera Sveranova(6-1,6-3) vs Johansson,#14 Dominika Cibulkova(6-2,6-4) vs Radvanska but none as impressive as the 6-0,6-0 inflicted by #8 Victoria Avarenka to the roumanian Olaru. Serena will face Roberta Vinci in the 3rd,Sveranova the #26 Virginie Razzano,Cibulkova the russian Elena Vesnina and Azarenka another roumanian, the # 28 Sorana Cirstea.

The best match of the day was between # 24, the charismatic 2004 Champion Maria Sharapova vs the 45th ranked Gisela Dulko from Argentina.Dulko played a great first set, taking it 6-2, and was leading 3-1 in the second when Sharapova started to fight back.Dulko felt the pressure losing 7 games in a row,Sharapova had leveled the match 1 set each but Dulko found again the form she displayed in the first and went on to win 6-4 in the 3rd on her 5th match point after saving one break point. The Argentine might have an even tougher task in the next round facing the #10 russian Nadia Petrova who has breezed through her two previous matches.

Gisela Dulko was all smiles after her victory and said that this was the biggest win of her career.”It is very special to win this match the first time I play on Central Court in Wimbledon, even more more so given the dimension of my opponent and the way play resumed.”The crowd started supporting me after I won the first set and that helped very much, thank you.”
