Men’s Singles

# 2 Roger Federer played flawless tennis taking the first 2 sets 6-2,6-2 from # 27 Philipp Kohlschreiber and starting the 3rd with a break of serve.Then,when it looked like things would be over quickly the german raised his level of play as Federer seemed to lose concentration,maybe because it was too easy.As a result Kohlschreiber took the 3th set in a tiebreak,the first he ever won against the swiss.Federer came back firing in the 4th and ended the match 6-1.

Robin Soderling won in straight sets 7-6,6-4,6-4 against Almagro so on Monday we will have a rematch of the Final of Roland Garros,Paris,where Federer beat Soderling in straight sets. The swede is a much more confident player right now but he is 0-10 on his encounters with Roger and in spite of what he said in his speech in Paris,that nobody would ever beat him 11 times in a row it could happen sooner than he thought.

In a very good match between spaniards # 7 Fernando Verdasco and # 32 Albert Montañes, Verdasco after loosing the first set 4-6 went on to win the next three 6-1,6-4,7-6.

# 22 Ivo Karlovic,the tallest tennis player ever at 6 feet10, bombed 46 aces to upset # 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 4 sets 7-6,6-7,7-5,7-6.Karlovic reaches the 4th round for the second time at Wimbledon and will be a very dangerous opponent for Verdasco if he keeps serving like that.

A huge upset late in the day as the israeli Dudi Sela defeated # 15 Tommy Robredo in 4 sets 7-6,7-5,2-6,7-5.Sela is only the second player from Israel to reach the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

# 4 Novak Djokovic passed brilliantly the difficult test presented by Mardy Fish 6-4,6-4,6-4 and comfirm his aspirations to the title.He will have probably an easy 4th round against Sela that will allow him to prepare for future tough battles,the scarriest one being potentially a semi-final against Federer.

The matches between Tommy Haas vs Marin Cilic(6-6 in the 5th set) and Seppi vs Andreev (5-5 in the 4th),Andreev leading 2-1 have beeen stopped as darkness fell on Wimbledon.

Ladies’ Singles

# 2 Serena Williams disposed of Roberta Vinci 6-3,6-4 to reach the 4th round but didn’t looked comfortable moving laterally on the base line.That will have to improve but the rest of her game is very good. Daniela Hantuchova,who beat Ai Sugiyama 6-4,6-3 is Serena’s next opponent.

# 4 Elena Dementieva had an easy win,6-1,6-2 against fellow russian Regina Kulikova.

# 10 Nadia Petrova lost the first set 3-6 to Gisela Dulko but came back to win the next two 6-3,6-4.

# 26 Virginie Razzano got a walkover from# 7 Vera Sveranova to get to the last 16.

Elena Vesnina defeated # 14 Cibulkova in a very good match which went all the way 7-5,4-6,6-4.She will play # 4 Dementieva in the round of 16 in a battle of russians.

DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

Men’s Doubles

The # 1 seeded Bryan brothers,Bob and Mike,are through to the 3rd round winning easily their two first matches in straight sets.They are looking to reclaim the title they won in 2006.

# 4 Mahesh Bhupathi-Mark Knowles also went through safely.

The big upset of this tournament was provided by the americans James Blake-Mardy Fish who defeated the # 3 seeded Lukas Dlouhy-Leander Paes in 3 sets 6-4,6-4,6-3.They will be able to focuse on that competition as both are out of the Singles.

# 2 Daniel Nestor-Nenad Zimonjic, #5 Bruno Soares-Kevin Ullyett and # 7 Max Mirnyi-Andy Ram advanced without problems.

Ladies’ Doubles

Cirstea-Wozniacki got the upset defeating # 5 Hsieh-Peng in 3 sets 6-4,2-6,6-2.

No other surprises up to now as the seeded # 2 Garrigues-Pascual,# 3 Stosur-Stubbs and # 4 Venus-Serena Williams are waiting to play their 3rd round.# 1 Black-Huber are still in their 2nd .
