Ladies’ Singles Semi-Finals Seeded # 2 Serena Williams and # 4 Elena Dementieva are first to play in the SF followed by # 1 Dinara Safina vs Venus Williams. Ugly first set between Serena and Elena, both women looked tight and unforced errors were mostly deciding the points.Williams had a great opportunity to serve for the set as she had 3 breakpoints at 4-3 but failed to convert.Dementieva went on to win in the tie break. The level of play didn’t improve much in the second set but Serena, a little more consistent with her serve, won it 7-5.Not much to sheer about and the crowd stayed very quiet, only the tight score kept things interesting. The third set was played on the same page, dramatic points as Williams and Dementieva had chances to break. At 5-4 Dementieva had a match point on Serena’s serve but failed to convert.Serena’s serve was keeping her in this match. At 6-6,there is no tie break in the 3rd set,Williams broke Dementieva’s service game and held hers to end it 8-6 in the longest SemiFinal of the open era. Very tough Semi-Final and Serena Williams showed once again that she finds ways to win when she’s not playing her best. The crowd was responding to the intensity of the players since the end of the second set and it turned to be a very enjoyable show due to the uncertainty of the result. The youngest of the Williams,Serena, is through to the Final of The Championships in Wimbledon. Venus Williams humiliates world # 1 Dinara Safina in 51 minutes !! # 3 Venus Williams totally dominated world # 1 Dinara Safin in the first set of the second Semi-Final.She won the first 8 points for a quick 2-0 lead, broke Safina’s serve again in the 4th game and ended it with an emphatic 6-1 as Safina managed to hold serve in the 6th game. It got even worse in the second set as Safina couldn’t even win a game. 6-1,6-0 for Venus in what looked like a soft practice session for the elder of the Williams. Venus and Serena will meet Saturday in the Ladies’ Singles for a rematch of last year Final.Venus is going for three in a row,six total, and Serena for her third Title at The Championships in Wimbledon. Which one of the Williams is your favorite? Place your bets at BetPhoenix.com Sportbook. My money is on Venus, she hasn’t dropped a set yet and will be very fresh on Saturday while her sister looked very tired after her battle against Dementieva. Men’s Doubles # 1 seeded Mike and Bob Bryan have reached the Final without dropping a set. They defeated # 9 Wesley Moodie –Dick Norman in 3 tight sets 7-6,7-6,6-4. # 2 Daniel Nestor-Nenad Zimonjic stopped the run of James Blake-Randy Fish in 5 fantastic sets. After losing the first two 7-5,6-3 they leveled the match taking the third 6-2 and the fourth 7-6 to then win the fith in a dramatic 10-8 finish. The two top seeded teams will battle for the Men’s Doubles Title Men’s Singles If you haven’t done it yet it’s time to put a wager on the Men’s Semi-Finals at BetPhoenix.com Sportsbook. Federer and Haas,59 years old combined, can play a classic style of tennis on grass.Haas showed it in his match against Djokovic.Federer is huge favorite but don’t forget that Haas was 2 sets up and had a break point at 4-3 in the quarter-final at Roland Garros. Roddick hopes to stop Murray on his way to history as no British player has reached the Final at The Championships in Wimbledon since 1938.However Murray leads their personnal series and will have the crowd firmly behind him. That’s all for today’s action,we will be back tomorrow. |
