Conditions are perfect,it rained a lot in the last two weeks so the rough is high in spots but the greens are soft and the course is there for the taking in that first round. Defending Champion Anthony Kim took full advantage shooting 62 in the morning, the new course record which stood at 63 and his personnal best on his young career.Starting at the 10th hole Kim made the turn at 2 under to score 6 birdies for 29 on the front nine.Great stuff. D.A.points and Bryce Molder are 2 behind at 6 under,Steve Elkington 3 back at 5 under followed by Daniel Chopra and Jim Furyk at 4 under. Tiger Woods is paired with U.S. Open Champion Lucas Glover who hasn’t gone home since his prestigious victory.Tiger is playing very well, making the turn at 4 under.A mistake at the 11th hole drops him to 3 under but he gets that shot back at the 12th with a 35 foot putt for birdie. Two more birdies at 15 and 16 get him to 6 under, his final score,2 shots behind Anthony Kim. Lucas Glover hit the longest drive of the day on the whole course,366 yards at the 18th, but only managed to make par, finishing his round at 1 under. A fun stat to end:Tiger started birdie birdie on his first two holes, and guess what ?He won 50% of the tournaments when he had such a start or better. We will see tomorrow if Anthony Kim can back up his record round with a solid performance to resist Tiger’s charge.
